My friend says that guys like girls who "Make them work for it", not really meaning sex though. What does this mean and what can I do to "make someone work for it".

Don't be easy. Guys like the chase. Inside they are all pretty much just hunters. If you are too easy to nail (or nail down) they will generally get bored with you.
Be mysterious, aloof, but not so aloof that you are stand off-ish. You have to find that fine line between pushing them away and pulling them in close.

It means dont be available for him all the time. Dont make it easy for him to get what he wants. Dont give up all your friends and your interests to spend time with him. Dont accept dates for the weekend past wed. They need to know if they dont book your time that you have better things to do then sit around and wait to see if he asks you out.
