I like to use cheaptickets.com. They have very reasonably priced tickets.

Listen to Scott, standby discounts from your working company is the cheapest. all ya gotta do is send them a notice so they can send a notice to the airlines for a standby ticket.
BUT, you can't always rely on that ticket. I went to LAX (los angeles intrnl. airport) and I had to wait for 2 whole days with NO sleep for a spot on the plane!! Standby is not so reliable, especially if your heading to somewhere where the airport is so busy.
So if your willing to go through that, then good luck!

Yup try priceline.com and use name your own price. You bid on tickets and destinations and an airline can accept it, much cheaper than using the reservation system. Only downfall is you cant cancel and you cant pick the airline, but you asked for cheap and its the cheapest!!

Depends where to want to fly from and to. In the UK the biggest travel aggregators are: Flight centre, Travel supermarket, opodo, and expedia. You can also try thomson. If you're travelling in Europe then look up BMI, easyjet and ryan air. Booking a fortnight in advance will usually get you very very cheap deals. Good luck.

fly standby at the airline of your choice if your flexible, plus if the plane has empty seats you can upgrade for free. IE: first class and etc.(I've gotten up to 80% off!)
