When you talk about the "environment", are you talking about trees and bunnies and clouds? There is more to the environment than that. The moral decay of man's society is just as serious as the physical decline of this planet. For instance, what if I am an activist protesting the destruction of the Amazon rain forest, but at the same time, I'm sleeping with my best friend's wife or doing something else that is morally objectionable. By my actions, am I improving the planet? Of course not. True Christians ARE environmentalists. We teach people from the Bible to respect God's creation by not abusing it. We also instruct on how to lead clean moral lives.

Many Christians believe that they were given 'dominion' over the earth, to do with what they will. This doctrine comes from the Bible, starting at Genesis 1:28... “And God said unto them, [Adam and Eve] Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; and have DOMINION… over every living thing.” They interpret DOMINION as: “... a supremacy in determining and directing the actions of others or in governing politically, socially, or personally.”
So... they are not worried about making the earth uninhabitable... pollution, global warming, nuclear war... or even such things as the huge an burgeoning national debt. Why worry? We won't have to pay back the national debt, or worry about destroying the environment because IT IS WRITTEN that the great, good and merciful Lord is going to destroy the earth, and all of its inhabitants... except for the faithful few, of course, who will be saved.
These morons... which, I might add includes some of our highest ranking government officials... are convinced that the current geopolitical situation is consistent with biblical prophecy... and thus, 'the end' will come within the next 50 years.

Some of us are. There has been a new resugence in Christians to protect what God has created.
God created man to care for His planet, not to destroy it and so I do what I can.

Some Christians are environmental thinkers. A lot however feel the verse--The Earth is under man's dominion--is an excuse to RAPE the environment. They are wrong and shortsighted.

They believe in heaven, so why bother preserving the earth? We may as well get as much out of it as possible before God comes back and sorts us all out, eh?

The two aren't mutually exclusive! There are christian environmentalists...It's just that modern convienence trumps environmentalists across the board, regardless of what religion you are.

Many Christians are environmentalists. Why do so many people make unwarranted generalizations when it comes to Christians?
