I have a potted ivy in my house, and every time I leave, my cat goes and lays in it, on top of the plant. I can't get her to stop, and I'm afraid she's going to squash and kill the plant. Any ideas on how to make her stop? Is there something I could put in the pot that would make her not like the smell?

She has two of her own very nice blankets to lay on, and she does use them...but for some reason she still goes for the plant!!

my wife has cats and over a hundred plants in our house. she always recommends that you put small pebbles or stones on top of the soil, cats dont like to lay in them or go to the bathroom in them.

the pet store should sell something in an aerosol can (like a product called "No") used for house training dogs that may work spray a rag and tuck it behind the plant to give the scent in the vicinity and it wont kill the plant but the cat will avoid it

you may want to create something better and more comfortable like a soft rug or a yarn basket to re-direct the cat to that object instead of the plant. Also try putting the plant behind closed doors. Or plany an ivy plant just for the cat.

It's hard to keep a cat away from plants. Spray the plant with a diluted vinegar/water. It may help, but cats kind of sleep where they want to. You may want to move the plant to a place where you can enjoy it but is not accessible to your cat. I've moved things and covered furniture because of my cats. You love them, but sometimes they can try your patience, just like kids. Take care of yourself and the cat.

Grow cactus instead! Or put some chopsticks or other obstructions in the pot the plant is in, and make it uncomfortable for her that way.

i'd get rid of the plant...most plants are poisonous to cats...i never keep any around the house because of that. or put it somewhere your cat can't reach it

What does the cat lay in there? Turds? Or eggs? Or what?

I've heard cayenne pepper (which may burn them a little) is a good deterrent for this problem.
