Ad-hominem, nice, actually it has nothing to do with attacking anyone. Some points are legitimate. I believe strongly that if someone spoke harshly about you or those you loved you would respond. That is all that is going on here, a response to what at times is enlightening and at others down right absurd.
Confidence has nothing to do with defense. If you have confidence in a friend and someone is bashing your friend you would defend them as well.
One more thing is generalizations are so rampant here, it is as if all people of a faith are either evil, not caring, not loving, not giving. I dont see that, I see loving buddhist, caring muslims, and giving Christians everyday. Just wish others were as open to seeing as I am.
That is my answer and I am sticking by it.
God bless you always, thanks for the wonderful question.

When we are sharing the Word of God then we have no reason to take offense. Your anger is with the Author, not the messenger. A Christian who understands the Word of God knows this and is not easily swayed by hate and disdain. Although there indeed are Scriptures that advise us when we should rebuke devils and haughty spirits, and or shake the dust from our feet... Nevertheless, everything should be done in LOVE.
Jesus told us that the world hates him and would continue to hate him and as His followers we would be hated too. Your hatred is not a surprise to us, it is God's word fulfilled.
Therefore, if you have anything to discuss, you would be much better served to take it up with God Himself. He wrote you an amazing letter, His Holy Bible, just for you!
Yes, if you were the only person on earth, He would have written that book for you and made sure that you got it. You are that special to Him, whether you want to believe that or not. He loves you, even though you hate Him.
"But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, [Even hating God] Christ died for us."
--Romans 5:8

Who said they bother ALL of us? They sure don't bother me. I look forward to discussing things with Atheists and getting their point of view. The problem is that some people get a kick out of aggrivating Christians and making them feel bad, so do you expect them not to get upset over it? It's what some people want. The people that bother me the most are the so-called Christians that judge people and go around telling people they're going to hell. It makes people think that Christians are terrible people. In reality a true Christian will make you feel good about yourself and won't force anything on you.
Also, I deeply appologize on behalf of Christians everywhere that you've had to face those fundamentalist hypocrits that try to make you feel bad. I promise that's not what Christianity is about. You'll have bad people in any group. Many times the bad far outweighs the good. The entire purpose of Christianity was supposed to be to offer people a way of salvation from guilt and things they know they've done wrong that is no one's business to know about or tell them about. That way of salvation is supposed to be free, easy and not have anything to do with what you do or what you did. There's nothing else to it. Unfortunately many people turn it around and judge you themselves when they have no right or place to. I'm sorry for that.

I agree with you 100%. No two people are going to have the same needs. Some people find comfort in faith, while others a refuge from pain. You can call it a drug, a placebo -- you can call it anything you want; but my opinion is the same as John Lennon's -- "Whatever gets you through your life."
For some it's religion; for some it's humanistic athiesm. But whatever, the one thing on which we should all agree is that life is too short for any of us to waste it on invective, name calling, or beating each other over the head in futile attempts to convince others of the correctness of our opinions.
As Thomas Jefferson said, so say I... "I care not whether my neighbor says there are twenty gods or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg."
Nuff said.

They don't bother me,
I just feel sorry for them, and want them to know the truth about my faith. They are free to agree or dis-agree, but I don't want other people to reject Jesus based on the many wrong misconceptions spread by non-Christians that do not understand our beliefs.
Peace! and God Bless you!
(Sorry, no ad hominem attacks here)
ANSWER TO FOLLOW UP:
We are NOT suffering for any words of hate, the old "Sticks and Stones" thing. Faith is a beautiful thing! God will give us strength, it is not a chore.
Peace!

Bring on the attacks, it's not that we can't handle the attacks. You could tell me whatever you want about proof that God doesn't exist and my faith would not be one bit questioned. I know that there is a God and that He loves me so very much. He loves you all too, but you just can't open your eyes to that. What you say bothers us so much because we know what is going to happen to you in eternity and that is what bothers us. (BTW, a comment to the other "question answerer" I'm not mentally insane....I'm crazy for my Lord, but not mentally insane!)

first of all we have confidence...and a whole lot of it. It's just that when people talk against God and say untrue things about it, it makes us upset so that's what really bothers us. Also as christians it is our duty to help save souls so when someone is against that it presents a challenge for us but we still press on and do the works of the Lord.

I don't want to attack you or anyone else in here. You are free to believe as you wish [as am I]. I don't like being attacked either. I'm actually enjoying some of the discussions we've been able to have. I must say, the people who just ask dumb questions, sling insults, the WSIDR and others, do irritate me. But, none of that shakes my faith one iota. It's a free country and folks can say what they want. Oh, and yes, I do have confidence in my god. Thanks for asking.

The science of defending the scripture is called apologetics.. That is what I practice here and what I have seen many (not all) other christians doing here. Yes we are strong in our faith and when we see that the haters are no longer talking about the subject challenging the faith but have turned to ridicule we stop answering them... If you see anything other than that then the people involved are too young and inexperienced to know when to stop... Jim

they dont bother me, it says in the word that christ was persecuted and hated and so will his followers! Its a part of life i have learned to ignore, and i merely voice my opinion and try to get the truth out in the darkness. God is not going to give you a perfect life just because you decide to follow his Son. In fact it's much harder than a normal atheistic life.
