People are hoping that when an idiot driver sees it they will try to have a little consideration for a young life & not drive like a maniac.

1. Not everyone that has children owns a minivan. My Saturn SUV works just as well. (Plus OnStar is a great feature and a really good selling point for a mom who has a kid w/ a seizure disorder.)
2. the purpose of that placard is to let other people know that the aggressive driving that has become a part of our everyday lifestyle is dangerous to our precious bundle of joy. Taking notice to this would be a good thing.
3. If the vehicle where to actually be in an accident it would allow EMS personnel know that there is a tiny child in the vehicle and, if the child was not already extricated from the vehicle, they would quickly extricate the child and transport them to the nearest hospital according to the injuries sustained (or not sustained) in the accident.
4. Only parents really understand the importance of keeping their child safe. If child safety means nothing to you... you clearly are not a parent. When safety becomes and issue with you, you can debate having a child. Till then, get off of your "I'm immortal" kick and grow up.

I got one of those when my son was born, but I've yet to use it. I think the intended purpose is that other drivers will cut you some slack because of what you're hauling.
It's also useful in the event of an accident. If rescue personnel find the Baby on Board tag, but no baby, they'll begin the search. Conversely, it's also important to remove the tag completely from the car when traveling sans baby.
On a side note, we have a program in Canada run by the War Amps, one aspect of which is handing out stickers for your car that say "Drive Safe". Ironically enough, my own experience finds these drivers are often traveling well below the speed limit, fail to signal turns, change lanes improperly, and are generally unaware of conditions around them, thereby making them some of the most dangerous drivers out there.

We have a magnetic "Baby on Board" sign that we put on the truck when our daughter is in the truck with us.
Logic? Yes, there is a logic behind it. Should we ever get into an accident where rescue is necessary, the rescue crew will know that there is a child that they need to locate.
I have three older children and never had a car when they were young. I would see the signs and wonder why they were there. Maybe people don't understand it and that's fine. I didn't understand then either, but I do now.

I used to think they were pointless and that I would never have one. But then I had a baby and felt like a dick driving around all carefully so I got one. It was basically just an apology to the drivers behind while I drove all slow as not to make my little girl sick lol! She went through a stage of being sick in the car a lot, eugh...!

The theory behind them is that other drivers will drive carefully since you have children on board. It's really not a good idea to have these stickers. Someone looking for a baby to steal can target your vehicle.

As a parent I am very cautious when it comes to my children. But I feel that responsibility belongs to my husband and I. We need to be careful drivers on the road. What I have sadly noticed is that when some people see that sign, they tend to try to make trouble for that driver. Saying things like "Who cares, I'll drive any way I please". Being a parent in this world, we should feel special, it is alot of work. But some just don't understand. Until they have a little one. One thing of caution, it can attract child abductors. We would not want to broad cast our child's name all over their clothing. Maybe we should not broad cast we have a child on board, especially to those looking for them. I'm not trying to scare anyone, but this is what we face today. But I know it is needed for emergencies. We need to come up with something different for that. Last but not least, just buckle up your bundle of joy, and be a responsible driver.

Have you looked at some of the minivan drivers these days? Many old people are buying them for safety. I think parents want to advertise to the hellions on the road that they have precious cargo so maybe it will cause them to drive a little safer around them. I honestly do try to drive safer around vehicles that I see children in the car.

those are the stupidest stickers. I don't care that a baby is on board. I don't see a greater value of a baby's life than anyone else on the road.
Rude? Maybe.
I believe that ppl just shouldn't drive like idiots in general.

I think that they are supposed to wake people up and encourage them to be more aware of how they are driving. Also car jacking may be less likely if the jacker knows that there is a child in the car.
And HELLO a lot of older people are driving mini vans now because they feel that they can see the road better from higher up and they safer.
