The short answer is that he got rid of the Catholic Church. Why you ask?

He repeatedly petitioned the Catholic Church to allow him to marry his cousin and they finally relented. No male child was produced from the union so he wanted out to try with another. The Catholic Church said no. So he convened his own religion.

No...Henry VIII...got rid of the RCC and created the Anglican Church (Church of England) to be rid of the Pope and the Catholic ruling against divorce.

Because he was sick of the Vatican interfering in his political schemes and yes the destruction of organised religious institutions controlled by corrupt clerics is always morally right.
