Frontline the cat, get it from the vets.

I called my local council pest control dept and for £30 they fumigated the whole house and we've had none since...of course we only had them in the first place cos the cat died and they had to go somewhere... well worth the thiry quid tho imo!

First get some Stronghold. It is the only treatment that kills fleas. Other treatments such as Frontline only make the fleas sterile so that they can't reproduce. The stuff available from pet shops is crap. Collars and spot-ons, they don't work.
Comb the fleas out of the cat with a flea comb then apply the Stronghold.
Next treat your all your linen and carpets where the cat has access to with a flea spray that is available from any decent pet shop.

Flea treatment should be carried out monthly on your cat in order to keep fleas at bay. Stronghold is more expensive but it works so its worth it.
If your cat gets over run with fleas then he/she will become anaemic (tired) and will need to see a vet for more costly treatment.

Another thing that helps get rid of a lot of fleas is to take a bowl of water or a few if you have them....and put bright lamps over the tops of them and turn off all the other lights in your house...do this at night...and in the morning you will see bowls filled with fleas....the light attracts them.
The feed stores sell something like this, but I'm not sure what they are called...and by using the bowls of water it is free...:)

Also salt your carpets...All you have to do is sprinkle regular table salt on your carpets and let it sit overnight and vaccum the next day...Remember to take the bag out of the house and to the trash bin or the fleas will hatch out some eggs in the vaccum bag.

To be honest if an animal with fur goes outside it will always get them, the best you can do is keep the numbers to a minimum. Treat your cat on a regular basis to keep the volume of them down. Frontline is quite effective, but, if your looking for a cost effective option use the essential oil Citronella - available at chemists and alternative therapists. Mix with a water solution to treat your house. To treat you cat use with caution - apply between the shoulder blades the same way as frontline (do a skin test 1st tho) - In most cases this is fine - All the remedies you vet uses contain Citronella. To test if your cat has fleas hold him/her on a damp sheet of white paper when brushing - if you get little dots of blood on the paper fleas are present.
Happy bug busting

Chemicals! Buy a flea-bomb from your vets, get flea drops from the vets for your cat at the same time. Wash all of your soft furnishings, hoover or beat them every day until the infestation is gone. Put a flea collar in your hoover bag as welll or else you'll just hoover up the eggs and they'll hatch out in there.
When you notice that the infestation is lessened get a steam cleaner, clean the floors, bedding and soft furnishings once a week to keep them pesky critters down.
Skin-so-soft dry oil spray will prevent you getting bitten as well.

get products from vets frontline COMBO kills fleas and makes then infirtile stops them breeding so any fleas that do lay eggs wont hatch, stronghold works the same way, but stronghold also covers ear mites and SOME worms not all of them, another product for your house is indorex, you can use it on bedding. carpets, all over and its actulay licenced for bed bugs too so its safe, just hoover the house first (the vibrations help bring the fleas out) spray your house 1 can should do the whole lot, go out for a few hours, when you come back in air the house and re hoover, if you have a fish tank cover it up before spraying

I have the same problem right now !
I use a spray for the house and all the animals bedding etc. You can also get a powder you shake onto carpets then hoover off which works well as it disrupts the life cycle unfortunatly I cant remember the name( Wish I could) Use a product that is put onto the back of the neck rather than a spray for the cat (They all seem to hate sprays of any kind) and ask your vet for help. They have some really good treatments that you cant find in Pet stores but you have to be prepared to PAY for them. Once clear try and keep the cat in to avoid reinfection but if you cant then like most of us be prepared to go through it all again often as its one of the penalties of owning an animal.

Call up local pest control companies and get a good price for a flea treatment. This is going to be the best way because things that regular people by are not going to be as effective as the kind of service and chemicals people have access to with a pest control license (my fiance works for a pest control company).
Also, make sure to have your cat treated for fleas. I have heard frontline is the best from several vets but it is up to you.
That should get rid of the problem. Good luck!

My sister had this problem. After trying every quick fix and spray on the market, the only thing that ultimately worked for her was flea bombing the house. It was very inconvenient because you have to evacuate the house for a considerable amt of time but she claims it was well worth it. And be sure to get flea meds from your vet. I can't think of the name of it right now but you just need to put a drop of it on the cats neck.

Funnily enough so do I. They best spray to use around the house is from the vets. It's quite expensive but it really works. You must do the cat at the same time and I use a spray just from the pet shop. It's been a problem for a lot of people this year because we had such a warm summer.

I would think you are going to have to bomb the house to make sure you get them all. You can buy bombs from Walmart and you just make sure you get enough for the whole house (probably several cans) and set them in different rooms. Read the instructions on the back about how to prepare your house for it. And of course, make sure you get the kitty to the vet for some flea meds.
