Believe it or not, there are 20 million Muslims in China and they are recognized by the government. Islam developed the silk trade and had a lot of influence there.
Heres info:
According to the Islamic Association of China, Chinese Muslims have
convenient access to prayer services as there are more than 34,000 mosques
throughout the country.
"Since the foundation of the Peoples Republic of China in 1949, the rights
and religious liberty of the Muslims have been protected by the constitution
and the law," he states.
The Niujie Mosque, built in 996, and that of Dongsi, 500 years old, are the
two most famous mosques in the capital. The Niujie Mosque is an important
center for Islamic Studies and operates a Qur'an school. During the last
five decades years, the government has assigned special funds for the repair
of these buildings because of their historical importance.

The number of Muslims in China is estimated at over 200 million.Muslim traders introduced Islam to China way back in 681 AD, and there are ancient mosques in China that are over a thousand years old.
The Deputy President of the Chinese Muslim Society told ALDAWA that there are 3,500 mosques in China at the moment, with the number of Imams standing at 4,000. He said that Muslims in China are now living in state of relief and openness, particularly for the last twenty years, adding that before that they were being persecuted and oppressed. He said now new mosques are being built, and the number of Muslims is on the increase in the country as a whole, with many Muslims attending mosques and prayers regularly.

according to stastics 1% of 1,294,629,600 (2004 estimate) are muslims. I don't know of any mosques in China to be frank with you.
