Because expecting a reward makes the motivation impure and selfish, like " I'm doing good to Earn a place in heaven".
That means "I'm doing it, cause I want something back from God".
It's doing a business deal with God.
It should be "I'm doing good because I love You and God. Whatever God hands me, is good enough"

First:
We don't go to heaven.
Psalm 115:16 indicates God has kept heaven for himself.
He gave us the earth.
Psalm 37:29 says the moment will come when man will be living forever on earth.
Second:
The doing of good, although important, is not the main thing.
Matthew 28:19 explains what Christ wants from us primarily.

Let me start by saying that i do not believe in god. I try to live my life doing good things and the right thing, for no other reason than to make the earth a better place for all of us. I dont drink, i dont do drugs, and i help others whenever possible, but i have only ever met one christian who ever practiced what he preached. Not saying he is the only one, but it is rare. I have plenty of friends that go to church every week and whose family members are pastuers, yet they seem to do the WRONG thing all the time and feel it is ok because god forgives them on sunday morning. It is a crock of BS if you ask me. But if you live like you say, then no i find nothing wrong with that.

I am Catholic and I don't believe your statement to be true. We can get to Heaven through faith and good works. Not be faith alone or by doing tons of good works alone. Having faith makes you do good work. They go hand in hand.

I think your first sentence is worded wrong, or I'm misinterpreting it. You say "why is it so bad in the eyes of God for a person..." It's isn't bad in the eyes of God to do good for others. He wants us to always do good for others. We should help others before we help ourselves. Otherwise we are selfish. When you help others, God will bless you. But good works only isn't enough. Having faith in God and believing in His existence and telling others about Him is also part of our journey.

There cannot be anything wrong with doing good works, even if it causes "men to praise you." If God is a Heavenly "Father," why would He fault us for helping his other children? If God, in fact, created us, He certainly didn't intend for us to ignore the needs of one another. How is it "being a body of Christ" if you're only focused on your own salvation?

There are too many people in this world who turn a blind eye to opportunites (given them by God) to help their fellow man, because they're so focused on the Afterlife. Give me a break. There are no do-overs and there is no Judgment Day: These concepts negate the whole premise of Christianity.

It's not bad ,it just doesn't fit the program. That's like saying"I want a degree from my university.I'm feeding the homeless, why won't they give me my biology degree?"
Paul said "It is by grace that you are saved and not by works .so that no man can boast"I did more than you, therefore I'm MORE saved than you".
We do good works BECAUSE we
are saved not to get saved.
So accept the grace of God and do all the good works you want.Matthew 6 says "Do your good works privately, don't boast and God will reward you .If you boast, then that is your reward, men patting you on the back saying'Good Job mate."

The Bible says we must be born again to enter the Kingdom of God, the human heart is wicked above all else the Bible also claims, so even when we do sumthin good we often have selfish motives, like getting a reward

the bible says that our good deeds are like dirty rags to God. God sent a way into heaven. Jesus told us that he is the way the truth and the light and no one can come to the father but through him. in other words the only way to God and to heaven is through believing in Jesus' death and resurrection and through leting him into your life. this is God's gift to us. as far as i am aware there is only one unforgivabel sin: not accepting God's gift of jesus.

"for God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that who ever believes in him wil not perish but have eternal life". john ch 3 v 16. it is through his love that God gave us a way to heaven and jesus is that way, the way the truth and the life, the only way to God and so the only way to heaven.

Ive asked this Question to the Seventh Day Adventists, the answer was it doesnt matter what sort of life you lead, if you dont accept Jesus, you dont get in.
Kinda rude I think.

Let them have their little club, who wants to spend eternity singing praises to an insecure deity anyway. YAWN!

You should never do anything for anyone expecting something in return. I do good things and all i say is that i know God will bless me but i do not inturn focus on it.
When i do it the only thought in my mind is that i will put a smile on someone's face.
