Can I say:

"If I find it difficult going to sleep, I start reading a book or something"

Instead of:

"If I find it difficult to go to sleep, I start...".

I mean, shall we bring the two infinitive forms or can we use gerund?

Tnx!

I would say:
When I can't sleep, I read a book or something.
or:
If I have difficulty falling asleep, I read a book or something.

the infinitive to go is necessary here.....ixnay on the gerund...also take out the word start...the sentence should read.....
"If I find it difficult to go to sleep, I read a book or something."

the sentence has to be balanced on both sides.
"If I find it difficult to go to sleep, I start to read a book"
or
"If I find sleeping difficult, I start reading a book"

Actually, that is an awkwardly constructed sentence. You should say

"I read a book when I have difficulty falling asleep."
