There was a question posted recently asking if god would accept us whether we believe in him or not (it was not my question). Those that claimed that god has infinite compassion and forgiveness and would love and accept us no matter what, received several thumbs down. Why would such positive thinking receive negative feedback? What kind of god do people expect to meet? Do some people expect god to possess human attributes, be quick to judge and just dismiss us because we MIGHT have made a mistake? I dont understand the rationality behind those choices. If god has infinite love and compassion why would he allow anyone to burn for all eternity. Yes I know we are all responsible for our actions but does it not make more sense if god allowed us several chances to reach enlightenment. Would someone please explain why those comments received thumbs down?

Skippy-Let me ask again why?

jlacroix1-I'll have to disagree with you on that. I believe humans are responsible for their suffering. We can change it because it is not permanent.

Righton-You completely misunderstood. I'm not trying to "out rationalize god" im trying to out rationalize people who think they know how god thinks, like you. You obviously have a very high opinion of yourself, and you probably need it.

Dmd and livingfor-You basically said that its more important to believe in god than to be a good person. In other words, I can be a complete scumbag but if I believe in god then hey, its ok.

Those who are so quick to judge are the ones that have no time to reason. The Creator is love he does not punish us, we correct ourselves. Peace and love be with you.

The reason that the answers that stated infinite compassion and forgiveness and would accept those no matter what got a thumbs down is because they are spread a false statement. Yes, God does have infinite love, compassion and forgiveness. Yes, God will forgive you regardless of what you have done. The thing is, a very important thing that was left out is, YOU MUST GO TO GOD and ASK FOR FORGIVENESS and MEAN IT from the HEART.

Just because it sounds positive doesn't make it so. Wouldn't you rather be told the truth about something that has major consequences so that in the end there is no surprise and consequences to contend with? Or would you rather here something inaccurate and think all along that it is okay, and in the end its not and you pay the price for it? Apply those to statement to everyday life and not just eternal life, it makes sense.

I expect God to be far more loving, compassionate and forgiving than we can even imagine. He obviously is not quick to judge as he has not yet destroyed this earth, he is waiting for his children to come home. God can only wait so long after giving much opportunity to mankind to repent. The end will not come until every ear has heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The good news of salvation. So, having said that, everyone will have heard and had an opportunity to go to God. God doesn't cause anyone to burn in hell. You have free will to make decision for yourself. God gives you every opportunity to come to him. If YOU chose not to, that is YOUR OWN fault, NOT Gods. God gives you a multitude of opportunity to become enlightened. If you continually deny him, you have made the choice to do that.

God will accept us when we believe in Him. The positive thinking receives negative feedback because, as good as it sounds, it's not true.

God is merciful therefore he doesn't want to punish us (1 John 4:8, Jeremiah 31:3). But God is just therefore He must punish sin (Ex 34:7, Ezekiel 18:4). God hates sin, the punishment for sin is Hell, but those who believe in Him receive the gift of heaven. God is full of compassion and forgiveness so he does accept sinners who have repented and given their heart to Him.

If someone has accepted Christ then they still sin but they are constantly trying to do what is right and lead a life that is pleasing to God. For those people God always forgives when they ask. But for the others who have not accepted Him by the time they die, they will be condemned to Hell. As long as we are alive we always have the chance to repent and have God's grace and love pour out on our lives.

"Yes I know we are all responsible for our actions but does it not make more sense if god allowed us several chances to reach enlightenment."

- What do you think life is? It offers whatever our lifetime may be beyond the age of twelve to get in line with the will of God.

- Any good parent has rules & guidelines set forth for their children to follow, God our Father in Heaven has done the same.

- How many chances do you think you'll need? Someone will always want just one more chance until no one is held accountable for their choices, so your lifetime is your limit on the amount of chances you will receive.

- How many days have been wasted trying to out rationalize God?..... Just hearing this question sounds ridiculous.
How ridiculous does it sound when you say it.

- How ridiculous is it to try to out rationalize the One who can number the stars, the One who ordered the planets in just the right spot to protect the earth, the One who gave His only begotten Son to shed His blood for the atonement for our sins.

I would ancitipate the thumbs down were from:

1) folks following a particular religion that teaches there is only one way to God; Christianity and Islam are examples of this; and

2) folks who don't believe in any kind of God and give all religious questions and answers a thumbs down.

Peace.

OK...In America, there is this misconception of Hell as some Dante's Inferno, buring, torment...yadda yadda yadda.

Hell is not a nice place, but it is a place totally seperated from God. In life, he;s rejected, then in death, He rejects you.

What is it like? I don't know, ask an amputee what it's like to missing a body part, then it might give you an idea.

Then again, maybe not.

What if the Xists came, and this is the time?

John 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

God will condemn no one to hell, they condemn themselves by their denial. God is loving and compassionate thats why he provided a means for our salvation in Jesus Christ. If we choose to deny that and not accept the free gift of salvation, thats not Gods choice.... nor his doing..... its ours.

You were commenting on thumbs down... watch how many this response recieves because i dared to use the word in my response. People want to debate Gods word all the time... but they are offended when the word is used to answer their debates.

They got "thumbs down" because they're wrong.

God is totally sovereign over everything. He has set very clear rules which are written in the bible. We are lovingly given the choice to follow or not, but we do not get to rewrite the rules.

Whether or not you agree with God is irrelevant when you understand the concept of lordship. God is over everything, and human philosophy that contradicts that fact is not wise, it is foolish.

Because God is perfectly righteous. We have sinned (human race) against God and therefore, we can't be reconciled to God accept through attonement.

But being the perfect God He is , He made a way for our attonement to him, through Jesus Christ. If we believe in Christ and repent of our sins, acknowledging what Jesus did for us, then we are forgiven.

The Bible says the words of Jesus are " I am the Way, The Truth and the Life. No man comes to the Father but through me."

He has made a way for your eternal salvation through Jesus. He is a loving God, but just like our parents, he has rules and ways we must obey, or we can't be with him. It's not hard. We must
accept him by faith and believe in him. He will send the Holy Spirit to dwell in your heart and you will have a personal relationship with God himself, through Jesus.

GOD THE CREATOR treats us like mortal dads treat their children. HE loves us all the same end of discussion. but when children disobey they need correcting by punishment so they learn to obey the laws rules and mores so they will become useful citizens in the society in which they live. GOD punishes but even while punishment is given GOD never stops loving us and hoping we will return to HIM.
