In choosing a breed (or mixed breed), "the cutest" should not be the determining factor, but the temperament, the breed characteristics. Many "toy" breeds can easily develop obnoxious behaviors, usually because the owners do not treat them as "real dogs". Small dogs need exercise too, they are not, nor should they be treated as stuffed toys, for their own mental and social health. Seriously consider this before you bring a puppy home. You want to choose a breed to fit your lifestyle too. Usually small, smooth coated breeds chill easily....often the brachycephalic breeds (short faced) breeds can have breathing or eye problems.

And...growling and biting is NOT cute in a small dog.

Do your research on the breeds you are considering; what were they bred to do, what typical health problems do they have. Look up the breed on the AKC website, or do a search on the web. Ask for insight from a veterinarian.

You need to do some research on what you want from you dog. All breeds have different personalities and and different needs. Do you want a high maintenance dog or a low maintenance? I have 4 in total. ALL HIGH MAINTENANCE. My toy breed is 4.5 pounds he is a Min Pin. He's 2 now. He is like having a baby. He needs constant love an attention. So instead of thinking which is the cutest (by the way it's a min pin) you should decide what you want out of a dog. So you can get the perfect dog for you.

You need to do some research on the history, medical issues, and temperment of dogs before you buy one. My family has always had West Highland White Terriers... but they are not good around kids, and aren't "cuddly." Don't base your decision just on what's the cutest. Learn more about the different breeds.

Most small breeds are cute. It depends on how much time you want to spend maintaining the grooming. Rather than buying a dog, why not look into rescuing. There are rescue groups for every pure breed. There are many homeless dogs, purebred and not. Chack the AKC website for links to these organizations.

Well, I will always love Yorkies after having my little girl for 15 yrs..She was the sweetest, most personable little character...I still miss her like crazy. Go to petfinders.com, put in your zip code, and choose toy breeds..There are thousands of adorable little dogs out there..including Yorkies and yorkie mixes..Also I would recommend researching any breed you are especially interested in that way you know what you are getting into. Toy breeds are great but they do have strong personalities that can easily get out of control if not trained.

Get a cavalier king charles, they are the most sweetest dog. they also have an adorable face that you can look at and not want to vomit. they are nice to everyone and just loveable.they dont bark much (only when someone is at the door) and even then its not an annoying yap yap barks like chilhauhaus. i dont think its a toy breed though but the are quite small 13-18 pounds. we live in texas, so it gets kinda hot here, so our dog's hair is cut really short, and it's less maintenance that way. but still they're fit for royalty (king charles the first). please check out info on this dog atleast.

Have a Dauschund, and I think they're adorable, especially the long haired type. Very needy breed too. They want to be with you all the time and even demand attention! I wouldn't trade him for the world, he's sweet, loving, affectionate and he makes a great watch dog!
