I am and I have been for about a year, to a 13 year old girl.
She is very shy, and sometimes I feel that she doesn't value our time together, or get anything out of it. I have continued to do it because I think that I am making an impact, but I am not sure.
I ask her, and she says that she enjoys our time together, but she is very shy and I don't feel like she has opened up to me yet.
Although I know I am doing this for her, not me, I still feel like I don't want to waste my time, if she doesn't want me to.
I don't want to sound greedy, I am just wondering what other people's experiences are...

Wow, I have had the exact same expirience except its not through the Big brother/sister program. I mentor a child at a local elementary school. i think that some of these kids have been made this way by their family lives and i think at least in my line the kid has been a hard nut to crack, but i can slowly see him starting to come out of his shell and i think that makes all my time worth while.
Ok, so on a diff note can you plz send me an email i really think you be a cool person for me to talk to bc u said u thought i sound cool and then when i saw this post i was like astonished by the fact that u had had such a similair expirience.

i used to be a big sis to this girl and i started to help her in science bc she was failing. but once she got a C in the class, she never cared about anything we did. sometimes i asked her to meet me somewhere but she would never show up and it was really frustrating...
