I used to have this problem-particularly with schoolwork. As a young adult after much reflection I found it was a control issue-I foolishly was trying to make the world evolve around MY schedule. As life went on, what with marriage, kids, work, being partner in a business, church, I couldn't afford to procrastinate anymore. What helped me break the habit was first thing in the morning make a list of everything I needed to do for the day. Then I would cross off the unimportant stuff. As I went along during the day, I would line out what was done. I discovered that finishing was good positive feedback. I didn't beat myself up if I didn't get everything on the list done. I can't tell you how long it took to change the habit, it was a process. Eventually you won't have to make a list-your mind will be trained to know what's important to get done. I still make lists, though, if I have a lot of errands to do around town, by creating a "map" of stops. Makes the best use of time & car.
I wish you all the best in changing your habit. If I could do it, you can too. I was the WORST!!

You can start with simple things like errands or household chores and then build up to the bigger things. You've been letting everything slide anyway, so why attempt to force yourself to be some sort of miracle worker all at once? Most people couldn't do that. I think that procrastinators just see the mounds of things that need to get done and that is enough to scare them away from trying to fix things.
To start simply, make a list everyday of three things you absolutely must do upon leaving your work, for instance: take out the garbage, write out the bills and change the oil in your car. Do not "sit down" or get comfortable in any way until after those three chores are done, (just pretend if you have to that you are still on the clock at work!) then you can call it a day. You will soon experience the positive feeling you get as you start accomplishing things, even if the chores are easy. Work up at your own pace (which will probably speed up, due to confidence) to the bigger issues.
It's really about confidence most the time. Good luck.

I start my day off making a list of everything I have to do. If you have a big project, then break it into smaller tasks. Then make a game out of it. For example, I'll answer 5 questions on Yahoo Answers, then I'll do 5 things on my list. Then I'll answer 5 question, then do 5 more things, etc.... I find when I give myself little mini breaks throughout the day, I get more done. Also, having a little reward waiting for me helps also. Good luck!

Realize that if you do something at the beginning you do it only once. If you don't you do it a hundred times in your head! What is it that keeps you from doing this certain thing...fear? what's the worst that could happen? Need help?...Ask! Do itand save yourself time and stress .Unless you're a masochist...

I used to worry about my procrastination....until I noticed that I actually do achieve the things are important to me.
If you don't feel like doing something there may well be a good reason.

I have the same problem, you just have to hype yourself up to doing what needs to be done and when you find yourself saying, "uhg, i'll do it tommorrow." turn around and say , "No! I'll do it now!" that's the only way i can get things done...

First you have to learn how to kick yourself in the butt to be doing the things you know you should be doing.
