Question

Does anyone think that any one individual religion or belief system will save the world? I believe that in the end it will be mankinds pride in his own individual beliefs combined with his selfish devotion to materialistic things that will destroy the world. What do you think?

As a Christian I believe the world as we know it will be destroyed and no one religion or belief system will be able to save it. It will get progressively worse because of man's pride, selfishness, and evil nature. According to the bible, at the end God will order plagues and catastrophic events that will destroy much of the life on the planet. We still debate whether He will remove His own people first (I believe he will).

look at what we are doing, if we really cared about the world and what was happening to it we would all stop driving, we would grow our own food etc....we know that the earth is warming and even if it is a natural trend we are not helping it by all the pollution and the destruction of land.
We will destroy ourselves, there are more people with materialistic devotion( or they are the ones with the power) than the peaceful ones.
The peaceful ones go on their way everyday but inthe end I don't think we are any match for the greedy ones.
We just leave a little piece of the world a better place

Bottom line!--(My belief is) There is one creator, God of the bible. Not Allah or Buddha or any thousand other man made up gods.It is all explained in the Bible from start to finish. Man always wants to put his own spin on things and change things to his own liking thus you have all these false gods. Perhaps here is the "rub", your part is you have to exercise faith to believe what the scriptures say, this is where man resists and his pride kicks in. The bible tells us "for it is by grace we are saved through faith and not that of ourselves" it is a gift of God! we cannot earn salvation by our own efforts trying to do right to please God for He says our good works are as filthy rags. Only through faith in Christ can we have salvation no other way, if there was another way then Christ would not have had to die on the cross.Your question will man's pride be his downfall? Yes, pride is a demonstration that one can do all things without God or without anyone else's help. ( Good thoughts, liked your questions)

Depends on what you mean by destroy/save the world. Man does not have the ability to destroy the world, make it uninhabital maybe, but not destroy.

Now if your question is about our existance as a human race, that is a whole different matter, and not the one this question posses. If that be the case, search, read, and ponder everything you can about faith and I'm sure you will answer your own question.

seriously doubt there will ever be just one religion as there are to many different societies for one religion to work for all. a religion for a hunter - gatherer society would not work for an agriculture based society and would not work for an industrial based society. the Christian religion itself has changed and adapted over the years to fit into various social structures and yet will not satisfy all needs. even if there was only one denomination for all mankind enough variations would occur in performing the rituals and ceremonies would not satisfy and/or please everyone as we are to diverse a species.
