My brother and I both had ours removed the same day. It was before i started school. The nurse in the O.R. asked me my preference to be put to sleep. Would i rather have an "injection" or "smell" something? Naturally being a kid i wanted to "smell" something. That is where i made a gargantuan mistake! I fought the smell when they plastered that ether on my face. Next thing i knew i was awake and trying to hurl. I also brought home the smell of ether in my lungs that i thought would never go away. There was "no" pain medicine-unless you call ice cream a medicine. Time and patience, waiting for "THE" sore throat to go away. While i was knocked out they also cut out my "adenoids". I questioned this and was told i did not need them. I know i've probably painted a bad picture, sorry about that. Maybe this will help; when my niece had hers removed she came to our house immediatly after the surgury and ate a three piece fried chicken dinner! Times must be getting better because i am no longer scared to get an injection. Stay cool, you may be eating before you know it and it was the ether that i hated more than the sore throught, and, i don't think they use that anymore. As Crocodile Dundee would say "NO WORRIES". Don't let my story sway you in a bad way. After all, that happened in 1961. Things change.

hopefully good ones. I cant remember what they gave me. They had to change to a few times thought. The meds made me itch. Mainly Tylenol with codine. And to let you know, it is worse as you get older. I was 30 when they took mine out. Seems like my ears got the worst of it. Felt like i was under water for months. So i wish you the best of luck and a speedy recovery.

Tell your Dr. if he could give u Percocet 10mg. He should have no problem, because your an adult and u will be in more pain than a child. It works! Don't abuse it, what goes up must come down.

Your throat will hurt to swallow, so it will be difficult to swallow any pills. This is an outpatient procedure, and the nurses will tell you to suck ice cubes, ice pops, ice cream, etc. You really won't need any narcotic pain relievers. If anything, and if you can swallow them, 2-500mg Tylenol. Do not take aspirin, Motrin, ibuprofen, aleve, as these can cause bleeding at the removal site.

They're probably going to get you drunk, oil you up, and fill you with percosets and codeine.
