Check out Yahoo's Yellow Pages, for Poison control, in your area, and give them a "Jingle" and just tell them the symptoms he's having, and ask if he should be seen by a doctor, or not...Thats scary, that he's having such a reaction, but I do think thats normal,.. those fire ants, are nothing to mess with! They really do put on quite a sting! We live in the high-desert, and we get them alot around the outskirts of our homes, and try to avoid them like the plaque, because, we've heard they've got quite a mean bite! So, I would just give the yellow pages a try, and call the poison control, and ask them what all the symptoms are, for being stung-bit, by one.. And if there's anything you can do for him, over the counter.. In the meanwhile, I'd go get him some Calamine Lotion, to relieve some of the pain, itching, or soreness.. This Calamine works wonders, for kids! Good-Luck, to you & your son! My sympathy's to your son!

Give him benadryl as soon as he is bitten. Or apply a topical steroid on the bite.
BUT if your son is allergic to fire ants you want to be really careful. After a bite, keep checking if he can breathe fine and whether the rest of his body is swelling up. If any one of this happens, take him to the doc immediately.

Use some antibiotic ointment on the bites, it will help take the swelling down some.
