In San Antonio and any large city, be prepared to wait a VERY LONG TIME.

Sorry, but that's the reality.

If you aren't set on staying in San Antonio, consider a nearby small town. The housing wait can be much much shorter.

I used to be on HUD, and they let us know right away! While we were at the orientation, that they had to take "Elderly" and "Disabled" first...I had been hit by a car, and was in a wheel chair, at that time.. so they let us know right there, that us, and this elderly couple were first selection...Give them a call, and see what the statis is with your application..Dont be afraid to ask questions, its not going to put you on the bottom of the list, if anything they will see how desperate, you are to get in, and might even pull some strings, to speed-up the process...Good-Luck, to you, hope your hear something really soon! Smile!
