I've heard and seen in newspapers, news sites, etc. that the religious right is pretty close to taking over and possibly deleting some of our freedoms. I am agnostic and some-what liberal and would be EXTREMELY upset if the religious started taking over. For example, in Georgia there is a mother who is basically sueing to get Harry Potter out of public libraries and the legislating parties are actually entertaining this crazy idea! What are we coming to? I know the times go in cycles. Ex: The turn of the 20th century was conservative, the twenties were not - the 40's and 50's were conservative, the 60's and 70's were not. Are we beginning another conservative movement? Whatever happened to freedom of religion as well as freedom from religion? I appreciate all of your thoughts.

Wisdom, you are a condesending ********. I did not say "remove all morals" from the world. I just don't want the bible-touting religious to take over. I am a VERY moral person, thank you very much.

The One, you are missing the point. I don't give a rats tail end if kids want to pray in school. That's fine by me. I just don't want people to start telling us what we can and can't read.

I am upset about that as well. Oh and I hate the label thing about librals and conservatives. I see a side converstation on there you are having about guns. PS my ex boyfriend and I might be labeled a librals and we are both pro gun. It is part of the Constution and we are American go figure. The constution is a brilliant document. How about people just liking the consitution and not liking fundamentalism of any kind? .These "good christians" are being told to steal by their pastors as a form of censor ship when school libraries are used as places of voting. The congregations of these people have been given lists of what books to steal. Is it not enough that they get to mess up the minds of their own children? How do I know this?? I know this for a fact because my mother is a school librarian and when there is an election and the library is used as a place for voting certain books are gone. They have been stolen after the election. So are they teaching their children that it is okay to steal. I am sure some kids are getting that message with this.

I hope they don't get ride of Harry Potter i love those books and movies. Lets face it some people are insane and have nothing better to do than to make a big deal about nothing. What ever happens happens i'm taking life one day at a time and facing it once it comes to me. What were the 80's and 90's?? If were conservative now what was we then? Personally i don't care what anyone thinks about my religious beliefs i'm free to believe whatever i want no one can controll my mind. Come judgment day i know where i'll be.

this country was built based on religion. "in god we trust", "god bless america", "pledge/under god" etc...most polititians today want to support the constitution and give the people freedom to do as they wish. which includes freedom of speech. while everyone may not agree ie-the woman suing over harry potter, it would take more than a majority of the govt to eliminate some of our freedoms. being agnostic, its been my experience, people that have never studied or participated in other religions or taken an athiest/agnostic view of religion are the ones that criticize and make waves the most. i dont think we need to worry about our freedom. religion will always be a factor in the govt but will not become the majority so much to change the constitution. continue to vote and offer your educated, well rounded voice to the community. people will listen to reason over bullying.

Vote for independent or other third party candidates. Although I have more liberal values than conservative ones, I cannot vote for the democrats. They are just as corrupt as the republicans. Take censorship for example, you have the right wanting to censor Harry Potter and the like while you have the left trying to censor what they consider "violent video games."

Its time we let these idiots know that we will not tolerate them telling us how to live our lives.

P.S. Even if they do outlaw Harry Potter and violent video games, I will still obtain them! I find no reason to obey ridiculous laws! :)

You talk of freedom? What about the anti-religion movement that has taken over the public school system? Why can't children express themselves through their worship of G-d without getting into trouble? You seem so against religion because it will take away your freedom, but you fail to see the freedom that anti-religion is taking away from religious people.

No, the Religious Right does not have as much power as you think. Remember Bush barely squeaked by in 2000 and 2004. Don't worry, your rights are safe. I and other Americans will see to it.

I believe that everyone has the right to believe as they choose. However they do not have the right to force their beliefs on others! That is what is happening. By allowing them to remove books like Harry Potter, we are giving them our right to choose for ourselves.

Yes we are. But be glad the Taliban have not taken over USA otherwise everyone including muslim women would suffer. The women would be treated like cows and beaten in public if the Taliban ruled USA. Not how a woman is suppossed to be punished by the way at least not according to muslim laws.
