Summers are harsh these years and lot of electricity is being wasted due to improper air-conditioning. Most of the heat in a room is absorbed by glass (windows or doors) according to a study.

If glass windows are covered from the outside the heat absorbtion would be reduced leading to better cooling with less electricity.

How is my thought?
Which will be a better "outside window cover"- plastic, cloth or natural material like straw?? why?

Good idea - perhaps not practical. A better idea would be to just have thick curtains and close them when it's hot. Along with standard insulation techniques, this is really helpful.
I live in Australia and even in really hot weather we don't use our A/C much because we close all the windows, doors and curatins early in the day before it gets hot.

The usual fix is an awning. All you need to do is keep direct sunlight from hitting the window. Shading the entire house by surrounding it with tall trees really helps too. Deciduous trees are best since they drop their leaves in winter when you want the heat.

I work for a heating and air conditioning company and the majority of our customers who cover their windows use plastic but I'm not sure what their reasons are.

Do you want to SEE out your window?
Get better windows is the best plan. Double paned windows are much more efficient than single pane.

If you want to see out the window and you Don't care about opening it then plastic would be the best choice. They sell one that sticks to the frame, then you use your hair dryer to make it tight so that you can't even tell it is there.
