I know that you should be well mannered. The other day I saw a bumper sticker with 'Be kind to your enemies, It'll keep them confused'. When someone is rude, either they have a miserable life, had a bad day, or are not educated. They will be surprised with your calm cool behavior, and feel immature or unsuccessful they did not ruin your day. How can you keep being a jerk to someone that is so friendly and kind, even though you don't feel that way inside.Plus they can never say the same about you, and you walk away feeling like the better person, cause you are! Good luck!

Yes, definitely. Who you are and how you treat others should never be so temporary as to change with what goes on around you. I normally have a kind, polite manner but sometimes if I start to slip the good mannered behavior of someone else will cause me to remember to check my own behavior, back track, apologize, and continue the conversation. Having the consideration to correct yourself will always work better than someone else having to correct you or someone else believing that you don't care about the situation or that you are simply being rude.

Well, yes. Unless, of course, sticking up to too good manners will get him into trouble (like, staying to chat about the weather with people who may rob him, instead of running away...).

Actually, when you are used to good manners, I mean, genuine good manners, the other type doesn't come to you easily at all. It also makes your life easier, _even_ if you are among rude people. If nothing less, you can calm yourself with the thought "I'm better than them!".

You should generally always try to use good manners. However, there are times when being rude will help to get your point across. An old saying that I embrace is that; "A true gentleman is never rude by accident".

Yes. Not only is it good manners. You don't know why the person is being rude. Maybe their day has been horrible. By maintaining your manners and calm, you don't add to any problems they have nor do you stoop to their level by being rude back to them. When we do that we make ourselves less.

A good mannered person is a person who is well mannered all the time, not just when it's "easy".

Remember the phrase "Kill them with kindness."

For some people, being impolite is considered cool. Jonathan Ross is a good occasion of somebody who's extremely impolite, even bullying, to visitors on his tutor and yet he's allegedly between the optimum paid presenters on the BBC. i'm particular he isn't being impolite because of the fact he does not like his visitors - this is his way of being humorous.

Of course-otherwise, you are just as rude as the person you are meeting. Being polite is not a game-it is a way of life.

there are so many rude people in this world who think they own it! Kill them with kindness is the best policy. If someone says something to you that you dont like dont stoop to their level and say something harsh back. Just ignoring them hurts them the most!
Try it. I do it all the time!
