Can you help me start a cult?

I hear you can make yourself quite rich and powerful doing so. I just need to make sure I avoid the typical pitfals. Does anyone have any first hand experience at these kind of things?

Well it would seem that Jesus does quite well in the cult industry. So you should incorporate Jesus and the bible. I mean its a proven product. Secondly facts just wont work. Every miracle or vision or space ship MUST be conveniently located OUT OF SIGHT. History shows, facts are not only not necessary but harm full to the survival of your cult. Have your vision story but dont include anyone else as being there. That helps stop any future disagreements also. And your seen as the only special messenger.
it must install hope and a sense of belonging. Focus on faith. But you must have something that singles you out, Not TOO much, just one thing that is BIG, like ummmmm... an acceptance somewhat on 'reincarnation'. It serves Christianity up with a little dash of mysticism. Also you can 'run far' with 'reincarnation'. It does away with Hell Fire while keeping a fear of punishment(you got to have fear), it includes Buddha and Socrates as well as Jesus. This helps broaded the market share.
Dont forget to write a book, and have a picture of your face on the front cover.
I think it sounds great, only problem is lying to the people.

Check out the history of Lafayette Ronald Hubbard on the net. Don't bother with the Scientologist sites, read about L Ron and Jack Parsons and Parsons' money and his girlfriend. L Ron seemed to have dodged most of the pitfalls.

A cult is the sharing of common ideals. Put into book form you will be able to clarify your thinking.
Then get it published which sends your thoughts out to a wider audience.
Establish those and you will quickly discover your followers.
Of course, you muight just end up with a cult of ............1.

Yes. First find as many weak minded people as you can then starve them into delirium. Put them in a empty room and make them repeat the same idea(Doesn't matter what it is) over and over until they believe without a doubt that it is true. Next send them out to convince their equally feeble minded friends that what they are saying is true Repeat the above over and over until you have a strong following. Get them to come live with you. Have them right to their parents to send them money that they will give to you in their mentally deranged stupor. Simple enough.

I suggest for research that you watch the Simsons episode where Homer heads up the Stonecutters. There are many good tips in there.

Think of a main theme to peddle to the gullible. Eternal life? Salvation? these are all good tools to pull them in, and backed up with a book of stories will be very effective.

best just to piggyback on an established one like Christianity. Set yourself up with a cable TV channel and tell the viewers they'll be saved if they send in their money. Works very well in the USA for loads of con-artists.

Scientologists were started by L. Ron Hubbard who several years before wrote in one of his (rubbish) Sci-Fi books that he would set up a religion as people were weak & wanted a leader (it worked for Hitler as well).
LRH died rich BUT its believed that some of the cult killed him as they wanted control of the money-making operation Scientology is.
