most chargers work in pairs .So 2 should be fine

you can only charge in even numbers so 2 or 4 and the batterys need to match like 2 double As n then 2 triple As or jus 2 double As or 2 triple As

I have one to and you can do less then four. If the green light is on then the batteries are recharging.

i also have a charger that will charge 4 at a time. you don't need all 4 slots filled, one is fine. but if you put one battery that is completely drained, you should put another battery in that is partially used in with the completely dead one to get the charger to "see" the dead battery. at least that's what happens with mine.
