How about giving parents a fine when they don't take resposibility of their children. When they don't enforce curfew. When they don't make sure the child is in school.

All dating would become then is the forbidden fruit. And that would be the one thing that all the girls would WANT to do, even if they really didn't want to. It's 50% parenting and 50% the girls choice. Some parents are either so loosey-goosey and don't give a rip what their daughters and the other half have the reins pulled back so tight, the poor kid can't do jack. There's got to be a happy medium with the parents, and the rest is up to the teen. We as parents have to instill a value and moral system that makes sense to the teen. Show them the consequences of premarital sex and the risk of pregnancy. Explain that girls are more easily emotionally roped into the "love" aspect of sex, where a lot of guys just want a piece. It all boils down to good communication between girls and their parents. Especially dads. Dads don't realize what a HUGE part that they play in the raising of their daughters!

America was founded on Liberties, not stupid laws. When will it stop. A law would not do anything to stop a normal human need of companionship. It would still be done, clog up the court system and be one more thing that big brother would be watching. This is why we have parents, this is not a government issue. What would be next, a law that says you can't go to the bathroom between, 1pm and 3pm to conserve water. If society would strengthen the family unit, instead of dividing it by drugs and adultery, etc. This would be a mood point...

Outlawing dating would only drive dating underground....

A much better approach to reducing the number of teen pregnancies is education and making birthcontrol (condoms) more readily available to teens both male and female....

Teens are going to have sex, the sooner we as a society accept that and address the issue the better....

Birth control is the responsibility of both parties not just the female....

Outlawing dating is the equivilent of the ostrich sticking his head in the sand, not effective at all....

I read that there is a law somewhere that says teenagers can't date. I wish I remembered where that was. Not "dating" may not necessarily prevent ALL teen pregnancies. And don't forget, the TEENAGE boys are out there too. Usually it's the male who is the aggressor.

Why is you have to be 16 to drive a car, 18 to join the military or get a credit card, and 21 to be mature enough to handle an alcoholic drink but there are 12 and 13 year old girls who are having babies? I wish there was a solution such as creating a law, but the fact is it starts at home. I don't blame the kids having kids.... I blame the parents for not educating their children and instilling self respect among other things. And we wonder why our welfare system is in shambles...... imagine that!!!! WAKE UP PARENTS!!!!

Not all dates lead to sex and pregnancy. When I dated as a teenager dating was fun! And I didn't have sex until after my teenage years are over. I would've been so sad if I couldn't date. I had a friend who got pregnant as a teenager from the neighbor guy. They weren't even dating. I know there's a lot of situations where dating leads to sex, but there are also a lot of situations where it doesn't.

no it wouldnt solve teen pregnancy issues because not all teenagers will go on dates and have sex! the best thing to do is educate teens on the risks of having unprotected sex.
if you set down rules like this the teenagers will only rebel against it and it will probably get worse

What about the boys? Even if such a law kept girls from dating, what would the boys do?
Parents need to educate their children. Just because they date does not mean they have to have sex.
My husband and I both waited until we were married, and hope we can help our daughter to make the same choice.

Noooooo... they just go AWOL if they aren't given the chance to learn through experience. They'll move away from home to go to college / uni / work.. and they will go crazy! Then they will mess up their post-secondary education, and potentially mess up their lives permanently.

Let's not be lazy and forbid young people to date. Let's be responsible and teach them about dating, sex, precautionary measures, diseases, responsibility of children, the importance of education.

Forbidding anyone doing something only makes them want to do it more - especially teens. You'd be making a rod for your own back doing that.

Parenting is not easy - parents should expect that.

There should absolutely not be any law not allowing teenage girls to date. If a parent is going to let a teenage girl date, then the parent should put the teenage girl on birth control.
