Still water ice is cloudy and bubble ridden as it is froze in place. An ice maker sprays or runs water over the plenum and only the mineral free pure water freezes and sticks to the surface, builds up and at the designed thickness goes into harvest, drops into the bin and then repeats the cycle. You can melt the cubes and have pure drinking water. Food coloring put in the reservoir will not thus color the ice.

partially because it is flash frozen by refigeration equipment and not just set into a freezer for hours, also most ice is now made with reverse osmosis or deionized water , meaning that all non condensible gases have been removed (O2 and CO2) this prevents any bubbles from freezing inside as the air has been removed from the water, any other condensible impurities will condense to a liquid and freeze giving us the illusion that we are drinking clean ice cubes , but just an illusion.
