My partner and i have just brought our 1st house. We love the street and the area but 2 months after buying our house our neighbours brought a caravan and have put there tv,computer, dvd ,cd player out there as there little entertainment area which is right near our bedroom window. I have told the boys mother that his music is loud and she said she would get him to turn it down but didnt so i got my partner to go over one noisy night and tell the boy to turn it down so he did for a little while. My partner and i both work at 5 am and somtimes have a sleep in the arvo but we cant even do that because of his music. I also found out that his doing drugs in there as well. I dont know what to do because if i dob them into the police i know that he will knew it was us that dobed them in and things might turn narsty. And im worried because his in year 12 this year and next year when he finishes school he will be home on the dole doing nothing all day and night. Please anyone out there help us.

Talk with the boy. Let him know a few things:

a) You know for a fact that he is doing drugs in the caravan. When he objects, tell, "but wait, there's more"

b) You don't like the loud noise past a certain time.

c) if you hear the loud noise past said certain time, you will phone the police to have them tell him to turn it down.

d) if the police smell or see drugs, they will arrest him and that is nobody's fault but his own.

e) Isn't easier to just be a good neighbor?

You need to make the noise stop: bottom line.

I recommend calling the police and complaining about noise disturbance any time the music gets too loud and it's late at night. You can't worry about making the relationship with your neighbors nasty because they sure don't seem worried about you; a relationship is a two-way street, and they are disrespecting you all the time by permitting the loud music.

Your other option is to try to handle the matter more informally. Whenever your neighbors are doing something important to them -- perhaps a social they are hosting -- turn up the volume on your own electronics, and play something that would embarass them, like 2 Live Crew.

Anytime there's noise after 10 pm it is considered distrubing the peace. Call the police and let them know about your problem and don't be shy to call them again if you have even if they already have been out. In most cases, police will give them at least 2 warnings and if the trouble contuines to go on you can take them to court. Make sure you have a copy of each police report made. Meaning you can get a copy of the police that was made out that night when the police show up at their place by the same officers that wrote it out. Also, ask for thier card too. So, this way you can show future police officers and the judge the track record of this.

Why don't you ask darla (or equivalent workplace girlfriend) at work to cover for you for a couple hours while you sneak home at 6 am while little bastard kid is alsleep and pull all the wires out of his stereo and various appliances. Speed back to work and you have a nice little alibi. If the police are involved, which they probably will be, you can bring up the loud music etc then and tell them you were at work when it happened so it must have been another disgruntled neighbour. Once the police have warned little bastard kid about the loud music then hopefully it will stop.

I would go over there again and ask nicely (again) to turn down the volume. I would then explain that if this happens again, you have no choice but to involve the police since this is loud music at an obscene hour. You have tried being nice about it but sometimes you have to go a little higher. Of course, you know that Friday and Saturdays there is bound to be more noise but during the week, while you're working, it need to be kept down. Good luck!

If i were u i would go over to the house on more time and talk to them and inform them that this will be the last time that u ask them to turn it down and that if it happens again that u will have know choice from here on out to get the police involved because they are failing to cooperate with u and if anything happens u will know it was them and so will the police.

How long have they lived there? Are they renting? People like that rarely pay their rental payments. They will probably move in 6 months or whenever their next payment is due.

OR, start playing YOUR music really loud at 5 a.m. "accidentally" honk your horn and slam your car door...just kidding. don't do anything mean. If the noise is really too much for you to handle, call 911.

Have you tried contacting your local council about the noise..they should have a noise abatement officer who can inform you of the best way to deal with this matter

been there, done that!

Befriend them. Sounds like they need someone to teach them some respect for the law and others. Perhaps if you reach out to them with kindness, it will give you the opportunity to impact their lives for the better. It will take some patience and commitment on your part, however, I feel it is worth it. Also, the friendship might just get them to turn down the music.
