It would be MORE unsafe for the kids on the bus to wear them. Do you really think that if a bus was on fire, one school bus driver could really make sure that each and every kid could get out of his seatbelt? Think about it, how many little kids know how to work them? Many more kids would die in a bus fire for not being able to get out of the bus.

It is a simple matter of physics. The weight of the children being seat belted would cause the seats to rip out of the floor of the bus. This would cause more injuries and create entrapment situations, thus making it more difficult on the rescue squads. Additionally, it would add to the time it takes the driver to evacuate the bus in the event of an emergency, and possibly have more casualties.

If the children will follow the rules and obey the driver there is no need for poles because they would be sitting down. I think if a kid is up walking around while the bus is in motion the deserve whatever happens to them.

Very good question.

I think the answer is, that way they can enforce sitting up to three children per seat, and do not have to pay the school bus company to add restraints.

Also, those buses provide no security for standees such as poles, etc... The thing stops all of a sudden, and there goes the kids to the floor.

Two reasons, we don't need another nanny and the kids won't wear them unless the bus driver stops and checks each and every minute. It makes for a long ride to school.
