I keep seeing the defense used that "we were all immigrants at one time". Of course we were, but we did it LEGALLY. Doesn't that make us American? You couldn't really be an American if you are an illegal immigrant, could you? If an illegal man and woman have a child, just because it is born in the US, does that make it a citizen in the eyes of the law?
Serious answers please!!

I said that those who cannot afford to take care of themselves should stop popping out babies. That goes for any human. If you can't afford it, don't do it. That is just common sense, and not a generalized statement toward anyone.

That is just common sense, and not a generalized statement toward anyone. It goes the same for people who breed animals without any money to have them taken care of by a vet, or someone who buys a car they cannot afford.

Legal immigration does indeed make one an American citizen. Its a lame defense for an even lamer cause. Its against our nations laws to enter into this country without proper documentation.it is also a Federal felony to assist ,abet, and help in any way an illegal by hiring, giving shelter etc to that illegal. The morality of this law is not of any interest to the law enforcers.it is a law and must be enforced with absolutely zero tolerance.Below is the law against hiring and abetting the illegal.
Section 274 felonies under the federal Immigration and Nationality Act, INA 274A(a)(1)(A):
A person (including a group of persons, business, organization, or local government) commits a federal felony when she or he:
assists an illegal alien s/he should reasonably know is illegally in the U.S. or who lacks employment authorization, by transporting, sheltering, or assisting him or her to obtain employment, or
encourages that illegal alien to remain in the U.S. by referring him or her to an employer or by acting as employer or agent for an employer in any way, or
knowingly assists illegal aliens due to personal convictions.
Penalties upon conviction include criminal fines, imprisonment, and forfeiture of vehicles and real property used to commit the crime. Anyone employing or contracting with an illegal alien without verifying his or her work authorization status is guilty of a misdemeanor. Aliens and employers violating immigration laws are subject to arrest, detention, and seizure of their vehicles or property. In addition, individuals or entities who engage in racketeering enterprises that commit (or conspire to commit) immigration-related felonies are subject to private civil suits for treble damages and injunctive relief.
The so called anchor baby law has been misinterpreted to include the child of two illegals.it was a law to make sure the black slaves of America were granted full citizenship in this country, not to provide an anchor for illegals to cling to.
Wanda ...its almost 2007 its not coming back ,we took the land in a war, your side lost, deal with it.There were no laws against immigreating here then so no one could be illegal..Face reality we were legal......and my ancesters came here in 1702 we were there to fight the wars to gain and protect this land. This country belongs to Americans of all races, not to just the indian.I am a native born American...as are ALL Americans born here.
Missyme your nasty mouth shows who the stupid one here is ,grow up and get a decent argument,we are not all little kids like you.

Yes, many of us were immigrants at one time. I am actually a first-generation American.
My father, who immigrated from Eastern Europe, is an American because he is a citizen. Entering legally and becoming a citizen has officially made him an American.
Illegal immigrants cannot be Americans because they are not citizens of America. If they entered illegally from Mexico, then they are Mexicans. If they entered illegally from some other country, then they belong to that nationality until they officially change it by becoming a citizen of the U.S.
And yes, the child of an illegal immigrant is an American. If you are born in a country, that is your nationality. Most countries operate like this. That child is a citizen in the eyes of the law.

Multiculturalism is very risky to any society. It creates social borders, & limitations. This separation isnt conducive for electorate to come back at the same time for a familiar purpose. the U. S. has been very fortunate in being a melting pot society. seem on the united kingdom, theyve had an inflow of mooslims they fail to assimilate and fairly favor to position in a Sharia depending theocracy?!?!? and they proceed to spearate themselves and threaten terrorism and violence to all and sundry no longer prepared to bypass alongside with their demonic designs of a neo- society. Immigration shouldnt quit, i'm a first gen born Citizen and performance assimiated all suitable into American way of existence. i'm an American first and optimal, i like my united states I truly don't have any allegiance to any opposite direction of existence our united states. So legal immigration shouldnt be discouraged. unlawful immigration needs to be punished to the severest degree accessible.

The purpose for immigration laws is to protect the country from unlawfull people. If you were born in the US then you are an american, and if two people had a child in the US that child belongs to the USA.

Entering a country, with the intent of taking up residence, doesn't automatically make you a citizen of that country. You have to give up (renounce) your previous citizenship, and apply and receive approval to become a citizen of the country in which you wish to reside. A child born of illegal immigrants, is accorded citizenship in our country. That is why so many Mexican and south of the border women come here to have their babies. They are then enabled to collect welfare and other benefits for the child.

In response to your comment when you said that Mexicans need to stop popping out babies, I'd like to ask you to refrain from prejudiced statements against an entire group of people because, as you know, there are millions of "Americans" who are popping out babies left and right, as well. Stick to the facts.

I believe that it does. The same would apply if we had been born in another country country, we could hold citizenship there until our majority. If we had been born in another country I doubt seriously that we would have received the welfare benefits that they receive here. Being born here means that the mother can get food, cash and medical benefits for herself and the baby that was born in the US.

Legally?
Dear, even at the present, there is ongoing litigation in several states from Native tribes trying to recover stolen land, and tribal recognition.
We ALL started as illigal immigrants. Only difference is we forced our ways into the culture and now things are don *our* way, calling it legal

Yes the child is American, but that was never the intent of the law, we are trying to change it.
