Its hard to avoid a hangover & there really is no drink that will givwe you less of a hangover. A hangover is caused when your liver uses up all the resources it can to break down the alcahol you have drunk. The feeling of a hangover is caused by the dehydration you are experiencing.
What you can do to make the feeling less bad is try to drink water between each drink you consume & drink water before you go to sleep & again when you wake up. Also try not to deprive yourself of sleep. Also dont strain your liver by mixing different drinks. Choose a drink & stick to it.
Also, the next day while youre experiencing the hangover, drink 1 beer. It will defenitely help better than anything else but it will make you smell like the local pub so dont be hanging around your boss or co-workers!

The key is the "heaviness" of the alcohol. Beer isn't heavy, but is carbonated which will give you a hang over because of the oxygen. So, if you drink liquors that are clear or low proof (like vodka or gin), you are less likely to get a hangover than say if you drink 151 or bourbon.

I'd have to agree with vodka , but premium brands. S#itty economy booze will be easier on your wallet but you'll end up paying it with a hell of a hangover.
And just on the side, I've found out that nothing is better to cure a hangover than smoking a bit of pot, drinking lots of gatorade, and a coke (to restore appetite, re-hydrate your organism and recover glucose)

I've heard that sweet drinks are particularly bad for hangovers due to the high amounts of sugar.
Drink lots of water, part of the hangover problem is that water is depleted from the system.
Peace.

I would suggest scotch and water. Anything with alot of sugar will surely give you a hangover. If you must have sweet drinks, drink water as well to insure dehidration, which also causes hangovers.

keep to the same drink all night, make sure you have some food in your stomach, and drink water when you get home!
For me, bottled lager like Becks rarely gives a hangover - if I drink wine, I have a heavy head the next day. My friends say its the other way round for them.

a hangover is caused due to alcohol in your blood system, so you need not drink any alcoholic drinks if you really want to avoid a hangover.

Personally I find if I keep the spirits white and drink with a fruit juice mixer I can pretty much drink as much as I like and am fine next day.
Vodka or White Rum or Gin would be my favourites with Cranberry, Fresh Orange and soda, Apple juice and soda, or lime and soda.
Also favour Ginger Ale over coke (coke and red bull dehydrate you even more than the alcohol alone).
Keep them long.
Cheers.

Anything but mass produced beer/cider/spirits/alco pops
It's the chemicals added to the drink that make hangovers worse, Real Ale, good quality wine, single malts, other "premium" spirits are much better - you just have to pay a bit more.
