It depends who you're flying with - I suggest you read the small print on the booking form.
Some flights will let you board with a photo driving licence; others insist on the full passport, even though it's an internal flight. To be on the safe side, I always use my passport as ID, rather than rely on another form of photo ID. (Oh, and I live in Scotland, and fly south on a fairly regular basis, so have had experience in this area!)

If you don't have a passport, you can speed up your application, but it does cost more.

You do not need a passport to fly within the UK. However, you do need id to prove you are the person on the ticket. Although some airlines will still allow any form of id, it probably is a good idea to take photo id given the tightening security.

DDDeeeeerrrrrr Scotland is in the UK, you may need to prove your ID, for which a passport would serve the purpose, but you don't need a passport

No! Scotland and England are the same country - the united kingdom. You do not need a passport, but should have photo id for security purposes.

Officially you do not need to have a passport for any domestic flight within the UK, nor do you need one to fly to the Republic of Ireland either.

However you DO need some form of photographic identification, for example a photocard driving license. I have made domestic flights with Easyjet, Ryanair, BA, BMI, Flybe and Euromanx airlines and all of these are more than happy with a photocard license.

However, if you are still unsure, contact your airline for clarification.
