I was under the impression that the veil is not compulsory it is just to show that you are being modest. I think the line has to be drawn somewhere and that line is that if you are in the police force, you wear their uniform only. Maybe a bit harsh but I think it is fair on everyone. I would actually find it intimidating to be approached by a police officer with their face covered.

Come on, would you trust a woman in a hijab carrying a tommy gun? That's what they looked like in Iran when the Ayatollah wrecked the place.
If people (not just mohommedans) come here, they should live by our standards/rules etc. The fiull police uniform should never be changed to reflect sub-cultures within a country. They are police, not religious police.
BtW, in hospital, I'd never accept a nurse with a sack over her head. Is it a nurse. or a terrorist in disguise.
In addition, I doubt whether most mohommedan men would allow their wives to join the police. Too risky.

The police force has a uniform.
Uniform meaning uniformity.
This is just going too far, how long are we going to let this go on for?
The whole subject is a joke and i'm so tired with hearing Muslims being offended at just about everything that is done or said to them.
Whay happens of a new religion comes along where everyone insists at being naked 24 hours a day? Are we going to allow naked people everywhere in society? In the park? In Shops?
I just feel we are being manipulated into giving them everything they want because everyone is so scared to stand up to them and say NO!

My husband's cousin is a muslim woman and is very high up in the police. I would like to see anyone try to tell her to do anything she doesn't want to! She's scary! However, the hijab is a matter of choice in private life. When she's in uniform she doesn't wear it. I don't honestly think that the more 'traditional' muslim woman would actually want to join the police in any case.

Oh please!
If a muslim desires to join the police force, from the outset s/he knows that a uniform comes with the job.
Leave religion out of it.
I'm sure the people of this country are sick to the back teeth of matters to the 'wants' of the muslim population.
Try integrating for a change.

If a muslim woman wanted to join the police force. She should wear the uniform just like anyone else and leave here religion home. Further more I would hope that we in the USA wouldn't be stupid enough to start putting Muslims (from other countries on our police force). SORRY I don't trust them.

There are laws against mixing church with state. If she is a cop she is representing the "state". She therefore needs to dress on the "state" uniform. The same would apply to people who insist on wearing large crucifixes or pentacles.

in islam women are not forced to wear veil, it's up to them if they want to wear or not but they should wear Hejab which means a cover for their head to cover their hair.
So there alot of women in the police and they of cours do not wear veil, they only wear a hair cover and they wear police uniform
