Here in the USA it's despised also. When I was in beauty school and someone came in with a mullet we would all run. No one wanted to give someone a trim on that hideous hair style. The reality is who really wants the business in the front party in the back hair style? Maybe the rednecks who have no concept of style to begin with. Think of Jeff Foxworthy.

There are hundreds of theories of the origin of the mullet. The oldest is that Finnish fishermen had it, to keep their necks warm on the cold sea, and named it after their favourite fish, the mullet.
But it was sported all over the western world in the 80's and early 90's.
Famous for being worn by British football players, and American country rock singers.

In the U.S., the wretched mullet is still common amongst the italian-american males of the Northeast (although this trend is finally starting to die out), the hispanic-american males of the West Coast, and the white rural males of the Southeast. Other ethnicity's in other localities around the States have other sets of issues.

It's coming back into style in the Midwest! Hey it was alright in the 80's...The only reason it was "shunned" is because it is considered the "lesbian" haircut. What MAN wants to be labeled after seeing this hairstyle on a woman??
But mark my words...after the "BIG HAIR" fad is out once again, it's right back to the "mullet"...

i'm Spanish and that i do no longer hate usa of america. What I hate is the present foreign places coverage of the federal government. I hate the lack of worldy awareness by using rather some people. I hate this un-healthful fascination with their own so-referred to as "freedom". I particularly have greater freedom in Spain (certainly in maximum different Western countries I particularly have been too) than i think of ANY American does in usa of america. loose Speech? does not exist there. Un-biased reporting? Nope. religious tolerance? forget it. I hate the theory that "usa of america is superb" and eating apple-pie and "Heh enable's flow to McDonald's Mary-Lou" attitude. I particularly have met rather some gorgeous people and that they have got some staggering environment. yet i could no longer stay there for better than a year. i could crack up.

the mullet is despised here in South Africa. Probably more because of the type of people who have one than the ugliness of the cut itself
