This is from the Police National Legal Database

Is there a legal age for a babysitter?

No there is no legal age for babysitting. It is the responsibility of the parents using common sense to make the decision. It is worth bearing in mind though that a child under 16 years old cannot be prosecuted for neglect or ill treatment of children in their care. The parents/carers/guardians would be charged in that situation. However, any person who is 16 or over and who has responsibility for a person under that age could be prosecuted.

I think between 14 and 15 depending on the maturity of the person babysitting and the age of the children they are looking after. Have to say my babysitter is 24 and still looks after my 14 year old and 5 year old. Just think its too much responsibility for a 14 year old to have to deal with a young baby or toddler. Thats just my opinion. Like others have said it depends on the person babysitting.

"There's no minimum age for babysitting. Working on the assumption you live in England or Wales, there's no straightforward answer to your question. There's no legal minimum age that a child can be left alone at home, although endangering a child by leaving them unattended is an offence. NSPCC guidelines recommend most children under 13 should not be left unsupervised for long. For more information, check out the NSPCC site."

There is no legal age. It's down to whether the individual is considered to be mature/responsible enough. It's a misconception that there is a required age.

16 +
i am not sure there is a legal age but you need some one responsible
even though a 12 -13 year old maybe more responsble than a 16 year old it is best to get them to spend time with you all as a family so they can get to the the kids and you can see if they are good

Contact your local Health and Human Services Department. They will be able to give you the legal age. Or a place that teaches teens a Baby Sitter course. Here in USA American Red Cross teaches it. Ushually 12 years old.

I would think 16 as this is the legal age you can leave your own children on their own so i'm assuming that in order to leave them on their own minding other children they would have to be at least this age.
