He is still a bit young to understand Christmas, but he will understand your excitement and laugh and be happy together with you. Have a happy Christmas and enjoy every single one, because they grow up so fast.

Sounds like you have a cautious little boy. My daughter was 7 months old this past Christmas and we had to keep the presents put away until Christmas because she was ripping the paper and pulling stuff out of the bags. She was the same way for her birthday.

I know - my daughter is 18 months and I'm hoping she'll get excited this year. I suspect that they just understand that something different is happening at this age, as supposed to understanding the meaning of christmas and that one day Santa might bring them some presents.

As well as being extra christmassy, why dont you get him an advent calender? That way he can see that you're counting down to something. Don't get him one of those horrific ones with choclates that seem to have absolutely no connection with christmas at all. I've got my daughter one of those re-usable ones with pockets and I'm going to put a little navitity figure into each one so every day we can build a little bit more of a navitity scene.

My daughter was just under 3 last christmas and I think it was all a bit confusing for her. She's four in January so this year we're hoping she'll be more enthusiastic - we've already told her about Santa and she seems to be getting excited.

So, from experience, between 3 - four is the answer to your question.

about 3 - 4 years old. my son is now 5 and was in full santa swing last year, at the other end of the scale my daughter is 10 and has started asking questions about christmas, i think she knows the truth but is to scared to admit it just in case the magic ends.

Mine was 4 the first Christmas she really got excited. She woke me up instead of me waking her up.She bounced around and was giddy and giggly. She called my parents and woke them up at 6am... It was awesome. At our house Santa gifts are generally not wrapped. They are in the tree or sitting on the wrapped gifts.

Anyway that was when Christmas started getting exciting for her and fun for me.. She is 7 and it just keeps getting better... Yes she still believes in Santa.

This is the age when they really start to understand that there is a big deal going on. When my daughter turned 2 this year, she say the birthday cake and sorta sang Happy Birthday to herself. When we brought out gifts, she said "Fo me?!" In her little cute voice. So, he may not understand the concept, but he will enjoy himself immensley this year!
