I wouldn't put too much stock in this "designer", or exclusive dog food. The dog may not even eat it. Dogs, like people, have their individual tastes.

I use the Royal Canin line and it works amazingly. I have tried Merrick, Wellness, Innova, Candae, Eukannuba and it goes on. Yes they are all good dog foods, but I had two problems my dogs were not crazy about the food and I thought they could look better. My Lab was shedding excessively and everything I read said the main cause would be diet. So I found Royal Cainin Labrador Retriever 30. My dog looks amazing and he absolutely loves the food. His shedding has stop by 85% and his coat looks great. I also have a Pit Bull and through recommendation of the company he went on the Boxer 26. Trust me he is the pickiest dog and in the four year we have had him he has hated all the other food. He can not get enough of the Royal Canin. This is also the first food he has NOT had an allergic reaction to and not once did he have stomach upset. and on all the other food he had major problems.
All my experience has been good with Royal Canin's food. It makes sense to have food designed for the breeds seeing that each breed has it's own problems. You can check out their website www.royalcanin.us it is VERY informational and helpful and they have sections for each breed.

I have three boxers and have fed Royal Canin boxer 26, it was an excellent food, they looked great and loved it. I also like Natural Choice "Nutro" Dog Food, The Large breed or High Energy formulas.

Royal Canin is okay, but I agree with another poster. If you are looking for 'the best' you should go with a brand like Innova, Wellness, California Natural, Solid Gold, or Merrick. I wouldn't get anything that can be purchased at Petsmart. Granted they do have some okay dog foods, but none of them are premium high quality. You will end up paying more for the better food, but they eat less b/c there are more calories/cup. Since they are eating less, but still meeting their nutritional requirements, they poop less. My dog is on Innova EVO Red meat (it has beef, bison, lamb, and venison...and it doesn't say 'meal' after any of these listed ingredients). I've also had her on Wellness Simple Solutions Venison and Rice and Solid Gold Hunden & Flocken. I tried the Merrick Cowboy blend (she wasn't a fan). You can definately tell a difference when you have them on these really high quality dog foods as opposed to something like Purina, Iams, Eukanube, or Science Diet.
Oh, and I listed the dog foods in order of the first being the highest in quality (IMO).

We feed Canidae and have had huge success. I know a couple people who have tried the Royal Canin line and were not as pleased. The ingredients in it aren't as high in quality as some of the other brands like Innova, Canidae, Wellness, California Natural.

I don't really think there is a certian type of food that is best for a breed of dog. My Boxer would not eat anything but kibbles in bits.I tried cheaper dog food but she would not touch it. Go with what your dog likes the best and if you have questions ask the vet.

There are people who recommend what they have found works best. The Royal Canin is good food and they have tried to formulate different feeds for different breeds. Iams and Eukaneuba are good as well. Bil-Jac is a good one to look into for your dog. Bil-Jac even makes a frozen food. We feed Diamond to our dogs, and have been happy with it. You might even want to look into a BARF diet for your dog. BARF is Bones and Raw Food.

When I got my first dog I did a lot of research on dog foods. The one food that stuck out for me was a dry food called Bil-Jack. This is a fresh chicken based food that is easier for the animal to digest. But it really does depend on your dog. Good luck!
