My podiatrist said that shoes made for running are the best shoes even just for walking because they are light but have a lot of support.

He said to go to the shoe store and try on every pair of running shoes they have and pick the ones that are the most comfortable. (I can't exactly do this because my budget for shoes is not that big!)

My best advice is not to rely on a brand because it works for someone else -- feet are all different and you will only find your best brand by trying on different types.

One podiatrist recommended New Balance. My current podiatrist has me in prescription "diabetic shoes". Any shoe that leaves plenty of room for the toes to spread out naturally seems to be better than one that restricts the toe and foot movement.
