I have only 32 days before I move. My cat is 12 (recently adopted due to newlywed marriage of six months and I love him,) and he is and always has been incredibly vibrant and healthy! I am scared to death that all those "preventive" shots will be such a blow to his system t will be devastating. The guidelines are ruthless. I am not at all rich but is hiring a boat from L.A. to Maui is even feasible to get around an impossible and outrageous law (for me at least). Please help and give advice. -- Will they stop me at the airline if I travel with him?

how well do you know your vet?? they might fill out the proper paperwork if you present it to them...and they are compassionate.... then your cat could fly with you... call your vet... they would be your best bet.. if not your vet, then find the smallest most "family" orientated vet... otherwise how about leaving your cat with a family member?? it would be tough on you but maybe a little less tough on your kitty.... good luck!!

Hawaii has no rabies because of these "ruthless" guidelines. You and your cat could be the Typhoid Mary that ruins paradise. Ask your vet about your cat's chances or surviving the shots. Don't move it your cat can't make it. (I assume that leaving the cat with someone else is out of the question.)

Hawaii's quarantine law used to be much worse. This is actually the improved version.

I guess the laws apply to other people and not to you. You find their guidelines bothersome so you want to bypass them. I bet you cheat at cards, push old women out of the way and would steal money out of the Salvation Army collection buckets just so you can have your way. People like you make me sick. And you and your cat will probably make other people sick in Hawaii. Stay home. You don't deserve to live in Hawaii. Hell, you don't even deserve a cat.

I know what you mean. Hawaii's agricultural and husbandry bureau is very strict when it comes to bringing in an animal from elsewhere. I think that is because if your pet brought in a disease, it will spread very rapidly on the island and damage the ecology for years to come. When the whitement first came to those islands, they brought chicken pox (or small pox) with them and practically dessimated the population of one particular island.

ANYWAY, you love your cat. Leaving him behind is NOT an option. I understand that becuase I brought my cat with me from Ustralia to France to the US and cross country.

Your only option is to comply with Hawaii's regulations regarding shots. You have 32 days. I suggest that you look up a VET who specializes in cats only. Get your kitty thorouhly checked. Tell vet what your problem is. He will be able to tell you whether or not your cat will be able to take all those shots... I suspect the vet will not give ALL the shots ALL AT ONCE. They will be spread out.

If you do not do this, Customs in Hawaii will quarantine your cat and that will be lot worse for your poor 12 year old senior kitty.

Go to a good cat-vet!

I don't know what the law is now because i think they relaxed it but it was that any animal pet gets quarrantined for 4 months because rabies is not in hawaii and that's the reason for the law and rules
