I've been watching the festivities with North Korea and it got me to wondering, are there any nations' diplomats who aren't allowed at the U.N., or are all nations allowed to go there? I don't think all countries are U.N. members, are they? When I was talking to a friend about North Korea and the U.N., he said it was doubtful that Kim Jong-Il would leave North Korea because he is probably paranoid that a coup could occur while he is gone, just like happened in Thailand a few days ago. Anyone got any insight on the rules and such with the U.N.?

All countries recognized by the international community as legitimate can join the UN as members, and other organizations can join as observers (i.e., the PLO). All UN member states can send representatives to New York to participate in the UN; however, representatives from governments otherwise barred from traveling to the U.S. are not allowed to leave Manhattan. I think North Korea would fall into that category. I am certain that North Korea is a UN member and has a seat at the meetings. I have seen their placard at UN meetings I've attended.

The Tibetan representatives from it's exile gov in India are not allowed in UN.

CHina commited genocide in tibet and its occupying Tibet.

China controls part of the UN and won't allow Tibetans to come and speak truth about china's mistreatments and occupation of Tibet.

As long as China is there in the UN as a veto member, nothing good may come out when it comes to democracy and human rights.

the world has nothing to lose by saying Tibet is a part of China though Tibet is an independent nation until 1949 before the invasion.
