Its even worse when you are in a supermarket and a child yells out Mummy.....everyone looks around...yeah, so maybe it would be a good idea to change the name of Mummy at least we would know which Mummy a child is calling out to in a busy supermarket full of mummy's.....lol

All the time!!
And I've said it thousands of times too!!
When my lad was small I never shut the bathroom door because if I did he would scream so loud that the neighbours would come to see if everything was okay!!!
I used to play the 'Rumpelstiltskin' game with him - if he over used mum I would tell him that I wouldn't answer til he guessed my new name! Peace of sorts although the constant 'err is it ......?' could get annoying!!!

My girl's too young to do this (only 11 mths) and I found myself eagerly awaiting the day she calls my mommy. That was, until we were at the supermarket a few weeks ago and there was a little girl trying to get her mother's attention. Mommy, Mommy, Mom, MOM, MMMOOOOOMMMM.... the mother's answers, yes darling, and the girl has nothing to say. It's just a game to her. What, is she counting how many times she needs to say it in order to get her mother's attention? I've heard people say to answer them the first time they say it or else they will just keep going and get louder and louder. Does that work?

Great question! Isn't it funny that the moment they're born we're trying to teach them to say "mummy" and as soon as they get the hang of it we wish we hadn't bothered?
My daughter is 18 mo and currently says "Ma" or "Mam-a". If she's really after something she uses the "Ma" version and so can fit in a zillion more "Ma"s into every breath, so it really does sound like a stuck record. What's more, if I don't respond immediately, the pitch gets higher and higher until she's literally screeching "MA, MA, MA, MA, MA, MA, MA, MA, MA, MA,MA........." Arggggggggggggggggggh.

Yeah, she used to say 'I'm changing my name and I'm not telling you my new one'. If she said no to me and I asked why she used to say 'because a Y isn't a Z, that's Y' It infuriated me no end. If we shouted her from another room she would shout back 'I've gone home'. You see, it's not the children that wind parents up, it's the mothers that wind their kids up!

Lol! I thought I made that one up! I said it to my kids, and still do (mine range from 13-21). Bet you can't talk on the phone, either! Seems that's always when they need you most--when you're trying to take your daily constitutional, or when you're on the phone!

yes and now my 5 kids do this, so I know what you mean. Just for fun I told them my name was not mom any more, and they had to call me chief cook and bottle washer. They just stared at me but at lest they were quit for about one minute, then we all laughed.
