First look at your diet. Do you eat fiber (whole grains fruits and veggies)? Do you eat an excess amount of protein, that could be your cause. Do you excericise at all, a light walk after dinner or when you eat will help digestions. Do your drink 8 glaases of water a day? Prunes will help now, but you can develop a dependency to have a bowel movement on them. ALso talk to a doctor, you could have irritable bowel syndrom. I suggest you write down what you eat and make sure you get enough fiber!

Some Peoples Bowels and peristaltic Movements Can be naturally slow!
You compensate for this be eating a High Fiber Diet(Cut Out Processed Foods- go for a Natural intake of Fruit,Vegetables, Fresh meat and Fish!) and taking regular fluids!
If you find there's a Link between certain food types and bouts of constipation-then Avoid!
Regular exercise is key in this whole process(Not a Grueling Workout-Just some simple Walking or Cycling).
I hope you find Your Body's Natural Rhythm!

All the other answers have good advice, but you really should discuss the condition with your doctor. Chronic constipation can damage your colon in the long run. Colo rectal problems are ignored by many people, because of the embarrasment factor, but it is very important.

What is your diet like? High fiber like things that take some effort to chew are good. Also, lots of fluids and exercise. Have you tried additional fiber like metamucil? How frequent are your BM's? Have you tried any over the counter laxatives or combinations? Have you consulted your physician? There are some good laxatives that are by prescription only. Good luck
