Growing bacteria is always a good and sure project for science. Get some food divide it up, cover one part, cook the other, refrigerate one part. Then use a microscope, or the bare eye to note the differences. Good luck.

I think probably you can submit the Refraction of Light project. You can use a light and piece of glass to do the same. I think it should be catchy :-)
