I have lost the letter telling me what to bring to my MOT this afternoon. Is is an insurance cert and last years MOT cert?

Thanks in advance.

My dad owns a garage and does them.

If the MOT has run out then you don't need to take that certificate with you. You don't need anything else.

If there is some time left on the certificate then take that certificate with you. For example, if you have say 20days left on it and the car passes this years test then they can give you 1year and 20 days for the next certificate.

However, if it fails you no longer get a 14 day re-test. Sadly the Ministry of Transport want's even more money now so you have to pay yet again, as well as paying for any repairs that need to be carried out.

My advise would be keep an eye on the little things like the horn working and the wiper blades being sufficient and all your seat belts showing and working as the test now includes these.

They'll have that information on their system. MOT results are now stored on a central database so even if you took it to a completely different garage with no paperwork, they'd still be able to bring up the failure details. Either way, it's not that important as they have to completely retest the car anyway.

No, just last years MOT, and even that is not necessary.

The MOT is a test of road worthiness, not legal use. So the insurance is irrelavent.

You don't need anything, however if you want the MOT to run from the date of expiry of the last one you will need your old / current MOT, otherwise the expiry will be one year from today.

You only need to take your last years MOT cert if you still have some time left on it, they will add it to your new one.

you just need to take your vehicle, unless your current MOT has less than a month to run and you wish the new one to run from the expiry date

No. The list is for the mechanic who fixes it. The retest is just that a new test. If you take it back to the original test station and the same tester carries out the retest it may be a bit quicker. But all details will be on computer.

Take your old M.O.T cert with you if there is any days or weeks left on it. And take your log book to the car with aswell. The price of m.o.t are 40 pound, Or more in some places.

You just need last years certificate. When you go to get tax, then you will also need your current insurance.
Hope you pass!!
