As a treat I let my ten year old stay up to watch the film Troy last night. The constant mention of the "Gods" provoked him to question why they used to believe in such rubbish. I pointed out that they were brainwashed into thinking that that there were these all powerful entities that controlled all aspects of their lives e.g. God of War, love etc...
He then asked "What, like Christians and Muslims nowadays?"

If my 10 year old can see it, surely you can.

To the lady who wishes my son and I eternal damnation. Thank-you. You have just proved my point!

Troy's a pretty violent film for a ten year old, especially when his Father can't spell or use proper grammar.

I cant say im blinded by faith. I am alive with my faith. Meditate on my faith, celebrate my faith. My faith thus I am bound to.
My faith is my ultimate intimacy.
I am emotionally sewn to my faith which provides me outlets for my rage and guides me what aspects of self to subdue. Directs me as a lamb to green pastures where I dont have to worry about things I cannot comprehend because its all Gods will. My faith in Gods plan and promises greatness in the hereafter. I am here for a purpose. Its all part of Gods plan. etc etc etc etc.

Easy for us to chide at. But if you inventory what you hold faith in and you lose it you will have devastation of id these people are prepared for.
They arent lesser beings. Faith is a very powerful aspect the human mind is capable of. People of faith will weather storms greater than us in the end....or so say the people of faith who will probably justify nuclear halocaust....and thus the self fulfilling prophesy and blasphemy to whatever God may indeed exist that which for us to make much more than a muse after is a blasphemy to common sense.
I think I got the point when I found out the truth about the Tooth Fairy...after being kicked out of catholic preschool (thank God).

clear as mud to me too! although in times such as that in Troy everyone believed that everything that happened in life was a reward or punishment by the gods - don't think society is that bad today but there are def still some fanatical people who believe such things in all religions!

I hear you though - more people should open their eyes to this sort of thing, have faith yes if you want/need it but dont believe for one second that whichever god you may believe in will save you/punish you etc etc

I am confused by a lot of the answers here. In dissing you and your son's viewpoint on Christians and Muslims, are they implicitly saying that Greek, Roman, Norse, Egyptian etc etc Gods are real, or just the ones that they believe in????

Of course you are entitled to your OWN oppinion, don't try and tell other people what they can or can't believe in.

I believe in God and I draw strength from that and I am happy in myself.

I'll watch Troy.
Gentleman! There is one and only Davine power, Who controls every thing in the universe and beyond that, ALLAH ALMIGHTY. Every religion believe His existence. This is the first common point amongst all the religions. So, I request all that we should start searching and gathering all the commons amongst us, and then we'll solve the difference. There will be no war as per my belief, Insha Allah. Your son has the sense but needs to study the religions in future. He will go on to the right path himself.

Out of the mouths of babes.

Children are very perceptive, they see things as they see them and have no worries to think before they speak.

. its not that people dont see what children see, its just that the innocence of children allows them to ask such questions without being judged.

You've obviously raised your son well, congratulations (and that's not a sarcastic remark, despite my user name!).

LOL, had to give you a thumbs up for that one. I think a surprising number of people agree with you but unfortunately those that don't will always get on the news.
