I think an increasing number of people want confidence in what they buy - that it is safe and kept well. There have been so many scare stories over recent years about harmful foods and e-coli that people are looking for reassurance from suppliers. I personally get as much organic as I can from health food shops and small fruit & veg suppliers and always have, but if I do go to supermarkets, I find there is an increasingly large amount of organic food available which is great but the prices are ridiculous! People know they are being ripped off but, as ever, the British public prefer to moan about than vote with their feet.

NOT cheap. But reasonablely priced, if the food is cheap I run the other way. Cheap food either means the producer isn't getting a fair deal or the food is bad quality. Organic is something that I expect more of, but also food must be fresh and tasty and free of packaging.

Less packaging! Organic, fresher and better quality. British local produce.
I now go to farm shops rather than the supermarket as I do not have to recycle so much afterwards.
Honest labelling and food for people with intollerances, my Mum has coeliacs disease and the supermarkets do not provide much food for her. 1 in 100 people have it so there is a market, but those that have sold it put one item in each freezer and it takes ages to find. They should have a wheat free freezer section.

As fresh as possible. I want in season fruit/veg locally grown in the supermarket, not all year round stuff shipped from some far flung place. The Spanish supermarkets their toms, peppers are all different shapes and sizes, do you notice here how toms are all the same shape due to genetically modified in the way they are grown. I would rather have toms a few months of the year knowing they are fresh along with any other fruit/veg.

Yes cheap and organic would be good, all of the Atkins A**e removed from our shelves, more low fat chocolate bars like Boots Duo can anyone from Boots tell me why they stopped making these bars? And wholesome cereals without salt or cr*p in them!!

Good, high quality health food for about a tenth of what it's worth.
Basically; value before health - though that trend is slowly changing.
