i think they meant 'fook' as in chinese word 'fu'.. it means wealth.

in hongkong, 'fuk' might have another meaning altogether cause it might not be in chinese but in their dialect, cantonese. meanings of the word may vary depending on the type of dialect they're referring to.

traditional chinese people emphasis alot on the names of shops, they believe how far the shop can go largely depends on the name. (:

The language is Chinese and the word is 'Fook' and it means
fortune/luck/happy. The word 'Fook' is often used at Chinese new year,
on lucky red packets for giving out gifts of money, on greeting cards,
and particulary as a lucky charm where it is appears as a diamond
shaped poster stuck on doors upside down.

It is stuck on upside down as a charm, because in Chinese it means
'Fook Do' meaning 'luck is coming' ('Do' in Chinese also means upside
down, which is phonetically the same as 'come' hence why it is turned
upside down). Anyone displaying their 'Fook' (on a door) the 'correct'
way up is actually displaying it wrongly! It is stuck on a door as the
door is the way into the house (to allow an entrance for the
fortune/happiness to come into the household)

In the 80s you'd been one of Walmarts biggest supporters. Before Sam Walton died the store had an official policy of buying only American made goods. Employees at least at the home office were treated extremely well. Turned out some manufactuers were fraudelently claiming their products were made in the US and Walmart buyers were politely overlooking this. The scandal broke after Sam Walton was dead and instead of addressing the issue Walmart dropped any pretense of buying American products. They also became known as a sweatshop in terms of employee benefits. The damage was done however. Where else are you going to shop? Kmart is nearly out of business. The supermarkets are just smaller versions of Walmar. At least what supermarket chains are left. Target is worse. You pay MORE for the same cheap Chinese made goods as you find in Walmart stores. On top of that Target's politics have turned quite a few people off. Mom and pop stores, resteraunts even if they could compete price wise couldn't survive the taxation and Gov regulations. If you want to see Walmart fall you have to first start with tossing both parties out of power as both are owned quite literally by big corporate interests. While either party remains in power the corporations are just going to get bigger and control more and more of your life.
