Does anyone know what in the heck a jigger is? I was looking at this recipe (I pasted it below) and it seems that it is a measurement of some sort. How much exactally IS a jigger? Like a shake of the bottle.. or more like 1/4 c. Please help =)

a 1 1/2 -oz. (45-ml) measure used in cocktail recipes.
a small whiskey glass holding 1 1/2 oz. (45 ml).

This question is really cute being of the age of 48 and growing up with a father that was a bartender, I would have never thought about some one asking this question. Did you know that there is no stupid question (unless some one is playing around)
Ya know there is no way of knowing this unless you are involved with DRINKERS of alcohol. SSSSSSooooooooooooo Most of the answers that you have received are correct. A jigger is usually in the glass form behind a professional bar and it is the measurement of the alcohol poured for a drink not all bars use them any more, some pour free hand and some are premeasured by a tap like a soda gun, and also there is a type of cap that is put on the liquor bottle that when tilted will pour just a certain amount not always equivalent to a jigger usually 1ounce

a jigger is actually a double sided cup / double sided shot glass used to measure and pour liquid when making drinks or other recipes.you seen them at Bars the are stainless steel colored,on one side its for a regular shot and the other for a double.

actually, a jigger means as much as you think would make it nice enough to drink up.

if i were you, i'd go with 5 tablespoons.

im pretty sure it mean one shot...isnt a jigger a shot glass? im not positive but pretty sure
