You sound like me,I have so many problems and things are always happening to me.Yes with all the stress you have been under for so long it is possible that you were misdiagnosed with a serious mental illness. When we are under a great deal of stress for so long sometimes we start having symptoms that a mentally ill person would have when actually it is just all the stress causing those symptoms.I don't believe that you have bi-polar because my brother had it and I have a grandson that has it,I have also known other people with bi polar and they had very few of the symptoms that you have.I think if at all possible you need to get another opinion.Have you ever been tested for lupus or lyme disease? If not mention this to your doctor so they can do tests to rule those out.For the joint pain take 1,500 mg of calcium with vitamin D a day and see if that helps.I have severe joint pain and it really helps me,if I start slacking off my pain comes back.If you are in menopause you will get night sweats bad,I would get up at least 2 times a night and change gowns and sometimes sheets.Hormonal inbalance can cause you a lot of problems. You need to tell your rummy that you want some kind of pain meds and don't back down, stand your ground.I am allergic to all pain meds and can't even take anything after surgeries because my system is so reactive and I wouldn't want anyone to go through what I do.I'm sorry this is so long.God Bless You,you will be in my prayers.

How should I take Xanax?

Take Xanax exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Follow all directions on your prescription label. Never use alprazolam in larger amounts, or for longer than prescribed. Tell your doctor if the medicine seems to stop working as well in treating your symptoms.
Alprazolam may be habit-forming. Never share Xanax with another person, especially someone with a history of drug abuse or addiction. Keep the medication in a place where others cannot get to it.
Misuse of habit-forming medicine can cause addiction, overdose, or death. Selling or giving away this medicine is against the law.
Do not crush, chew, or break a Xanax extended-release tablet. Swallow the tablet whole.
Call your doctor if this medicine seems to stop working as well in treating your panic or anxiety symptoms.
Do not stop using Xanax suddenly, or you could have unpleasant withdrawal symptoms. Ask your doctor how to safely stop using this medicine.
If you use this medicine long-term, you may need frequent medical tests.
Store Xanax at room temperature away from moisture and heat.
Keep track of the amount of medicine used from each new bottle. Xanax is a drug of abuse and you should be aware if anyone is using your medicine improperly or without a prescription.

Because xanax is addictive. You may not think you will get hooked but your body will build up a tolerance and you won't be able to get by with the a small dose. So after a few months you'll need more and a few months later you'll need even more just to maintain. One of the first steps to conquering anxiety is to believe you can help yourself. Find a therapist, read some self help books, take an antidepressant and save the xanax for those really bad days. You can't rely on a controlled substance to help you.

Xanax should be taken only in a prescribed period of time not exceeding a month. iftaken beyond this period, the person may develop rebound anxiety/stress and addiction.

Once taken, it should be tapered down until the person can control his stress/anxiety in a natural ways and not to stop the medication abruptly.

The best ways that you could control your stress are MEDITATION, REST and SLEEP, HEAR SOME SOULFUL MUSIC,EXERCISE IN THE MORNING, FOCUS ON SOME WORDS or MANTRA, GO TO THE BEACH, GET THE COMPANY OF YOUR FRIENDS,try other COUNSELOR/DOCTOR if necessary.

I wish I could help you through this. Feel free to contact me if you wish to know some of destressing techniques.

Xanax is a benzodiazepine with abuse potential. It is helpful for anxiety and panic attack short term, not meant for long term therapy like all benzodiazepines. You could try St. Johns Wort, a herbal remedy that helps with those condition. What is your doctor's approach to treatment? I am just curious what is being prescribed or given, if anything?

Get a plan together on other ways you will lower your anxiety and stress level. Things like exercise, eating healthier, maybe seeing a counselor. Present the plan to your doctor and tell him/her that with the plan and medication you may be able to feel better. Sometimes I think doctors want to see the patient do their part in making it better, not just precribing medications for everything. May also want to talk to another doctor to get a second opinion.

Whatever your doctors reason for not perscribing Xanax was, it had to be a sound decision.

Did he offer any alternatives like anxiety management classes, support groups, or counseling?

there are a lot of different relaxation techniques you can find on line...my favorite being progressive muscle relaxation....

the key component is making time to relax as important a commitment as the other things in your life.

make time for you.

What is your age madam? You will get addicted to xanax or perhaps your health will not bear the toxity. As a matter of fact you should not take medicines to relieve the anxiety and stress. These medicines put to you sleep.

I suggest you go to a park nearby your place in the morning when the dew is fresh. Please walk on the grass barefoot for five minutes. This chill travels through your body and upto the brain. This freshens up your brain and relaxes the same.

After walking, please sit on the grass facing east. The raising sun's rays have pleasant energies and these will impact on your body. Using the little finger and the thumb of your righthand close the nose. Now take off the little finger from left nostril and breath in slowly. Close the nose and hold the breath for a few seconds. Now let it out through right nostril. Then do it other way. Please do this for 5 minutes. When you do this, your lungs get a lot of oxygen which in turn purifies the blood and increase the blood circulation upto your brain.

After the breathing exercise, please close your eyes to that extent that you can see the tip of your nose. Mentally chant the name of your family deity for 5 minutes.

All the above will remove the anxiety and stress from you within 10 days time.

Maybe you should seek some councilling first, then go back to the doctor, if that doesn't work I would seek a second opinion.

Sometimes however the drug you took as a teen may work differently due to any other medication your on and the hormones in your body, just because a drug worked then doesn't mean it will now.

Good Luck

I don't know, but perhaps your doctor feels you can deal with this situation on your own, and don't need any medication for it...

If you are suffering from these things, would it not be best to find out why you are stressed and anxious and try and deal with the root of the problem.
