i have a male and a female pit, my female i have had a little over a year and she has always been really laid back, however i only had my male for about month and he really likes to bark and he likes to play, i get scared when a dog barks at me and he seems to enjoy barking at me and i get really scared of him, i put him outside everytime he barks at me (if i can convince him to go out there) but then he sits there and still barks and whines wanting back in.
should i be worried that he will bite me or do u think he may just be wanting attention?
i also should say that when he barks at me , i sometimes yell at him to stop and he barks that much harder. and scares me that much more. so what can i do?
he doesn't do that to anyone else, just me, he never barks at my husband, and he usually only barks at me when my husband is in the bedroom and i am in the living room with the dogs. so basically when i am alone is the only time he does it?

The dog is trying to dominate you. He senses a weakness in you. You have not established yourself as a dominant dog. Don't show you are afraid - that makes it worse. Don't yell, they think it's playing who can make more noise. Talk firmly and loudly, with a commanding voice. And don't be a pushover, to do whatever he wants. It will also help if you are the one who controls his food. That's one way of showing him you are dominant to him. You should be worried, the dog may make a physical attempt at dominating you even if he doesn't want to hurt you badly. This problem comes from you. You are not giving him the right signals that you're boss.

First barking is a normal thing for dogs so orignally he probally was not doing anything but getting your attention. After he realized he got a reaction from you it became the thing to do. Sometimes we indirectly reward dogs for an unwanted behavior and then it becomes reinforced and stays. Any behavior that is rewarded ( and him getting your attention is a reward ) will continue and any behavior you ignore will stop. He probally does not bark at your husband because he does not get a reaction.
Make sure you are spending a lot of time with him. Just like kids they get lonely and demand attention, even if it is negative. So spend good guality time with him. Also do not let it intimindate you he also picks up on that which allows him to become your boss, he will not have respect for you at all. Do not be afraid of he is not going to hurt you .
You need to stop rewarding the bad behavior, has hard as it might be for you ignore him when he barks at you. Keep your back to him and do not give him the attention he has learned he will get from you. Only give him postive attention for positive behavior. Remember even bad attention is better than no attention, so make sure you are giving him exercise, training time and fun time. And when he is good lavish him with praise.
Training will continue throughout his whole life and we as humans are the inconsistent ones that change the rules. So make sure you always reward him for good behavior throughout his whole life. He stops getting it he will return to getting bad attention.

pits, escpecially young ones are high energy dogs. He probably started out barking just to bark. However dogs do sence fear, he proabably is trying to dominate. I would be careful w/ him escpecially if you are afraid of him. he probably would be fine, but if you are exhibiting fear all the time this could be a problem, just like w/ any dog. If you want him to stop, you either need to ignore him or use a squirt gun w/ water on him every time he barks. Yelling @ him gives him attention and that is probably what he is wanting in the first place, so don't rewar a behavior you do not want.

Both of my female Pitties will bark at me when they want something. Piper when she wants to come in and Tigger when she's playing fetch. I allow that because this is how they communicate to me. If they try to take it farther ,I say enough and walk away.Usually they will stop. I believe your dog is trying to seek attention at first ,but now he senses you're scared of him.Dogs play on fear. You need to be in control of the situation and make him understand that you're the top dog.You need to be firm , fair , and consistant with him. I heard people that practice NILIF with their dogs ,which i've never done puts the dogs back at the bottom of the pack.Google NILIF and read up on it. You walk out the door first , take charge of his food ,no on beds ,furniture , ect. He has to understand he's last and you're first.Right now I believe he doesn't respect you or see you as top dog ,and senses fear.I've heard NILIF works wonders. You may have to keep doing this for the life of the dog .If he's worth it to you ,then doing it will be second nature.Your hubby also has to do it to ,not just you.

I have a 8month old pitt bull male (Slater) he is very very spoilt and he too like to bark constantly. in the beginning it bothered me to and shouting at him to get him to stop only made it worse. the vet told myself and my fiance that this was he's way of communicating with us. and that yelling for him to stop only makes him more excited. (",) i am sure that he is still getting use to being at your house and its probably a territorial thing, maybe letting other dogs in the neighborhood know that he is there.
in regards to your female being passive, you must remember that like humans all dogs have there own personalities.
good luck with him though, dispite what people say about them pitt bulls are extremely loving and loyal animals. i totally adore mine,
