My dog is a year old, and he does the weirdest thing.. he sits with his back foot in his mouth in front of our mirror... and not for a couple of minutes but for hours and hours.. its one of those long mirrors that you can carry from room to room, so i literally hide the mirror but when i do, he gets all sad so Ill take it back out and he will just look at himself, then stick his back foot in his mouth, and stare at himself in the mirror.. turning his head to the side but keep his eyes on himself.. its so funny, and the position he is sitting in cant be comfortable.. He isnt hurting himself or anything, I just think it hilarious.. has anyone else had this happen with their dog??? rememeber he does this for hours.. no exageration...

HA HA that doesn't sound uncommon.
i have a pitt bull who is 8 months old and he does weired things as well in front of our big mirror. he watches himself and barks. he sometimes sits and all of a sudden jumps up and tries to bite his back legs.. hehe, like they belong to another dog. (",) he also stands and looks at me in the mirror and cries and cries and scratches on the mirror like he wants to get to me and cant, he doesn't realize that i am standing behind him. (",)
i think that its quiet cute. our vet has told us to remember that like children animals also have imaginary :friends" which they bark at and play with when they running around aimlessly! and that also like kids they have toys, hence the mirror.
i don't think that your dog is strange, i think that he has personality.

That is really funny, my dog does a similar thing but he does not take it that far. He sleeps on my bed so every morning when he gets up he goes to the edge of the bed and stares into the mirror on the dresser. He will sit there for about 5 minutes turning his head back and forth as to make he looks okay from all angles. But he will not leave the bed until he checks himself out.

Haven't had a dog do that but every dog tha I've had has had a weird quirk that makes them that much more special. One dog used to lick her nose until she fell asleep. She's get comfy and then start licking her nose until she was fast asleep. I asked the vet and basically since it wasn't causing any damage i shouldn't worry.

Enjoy your quirky dog and take lots of pics!

Ha ha! strange habit, i've got not considered a cat try this until now. My cat does some quite unusual issues too. specially circumstances, if I dropped a grape or some form of around merchandise, my cat could chase it around the room and pretend to play "ping-pong" with it. yet another unusual habit is as quickly as we ever have ants in or homestead ( it is rarely ) my cat could stick to them and could placed her paw up extreme and convey it without postpone down on suitable of the ant ( virtually if she have been attempting to squish them ) this is somewhat certainly one of the justifications i admire cats. you do no longer comprehend what those bushy little creatures are going to do next!

I guess maybe it was a comfort thing when he was younger, kind of like a child sucking their thumb.

And it just turned into a habbit, something he likes to do.

You shouldnt be worried if its not harming him, but if it starts to interfere with things like his eating and stuff you should try to curb the behaviour then
